Cheap Freight of the day

Probably contract rates, or a customer that doesn't question rates and are out of touch with the market, very few like that but they are out there. If people are allowing them those margins then that's great for them and whoever is hauling it.

New MC's that came into the market during the boom for the riches and are taking these loads will be crying very soon and by the looks of most of these Facebook groups they already are. Most of these folks are Guys that were owner ops and got greedy and wanted a bigger piece of the pie and got in with no knowledge of the market, they were getting whatever amount they could come up for rates and rolled with it. Now the market is in a dip and those same guys are taking freight at whatever price is offered, no negotiations. These are the guys in BC taking loads to Chicago for $3600 CDN with $250k Trucks and $100K dry vans. Absolutely no clue what their cost is but hey as long as the wheels are turnin your earning, until you're not.
This is true and and exactly what is happening right now!

Pretty sure those guys are not full commission reps based ... probably getting salary plus a small commission based on GP. I seriously doubt they are making that kind of money on TL, even if it's a cross-country bill of $6K or something.

The probability is that the carrier takes the same load all year round for a certain amount on a seasonal lane where sometimes they'll do great and other times they'll break even or take a hit. Nothing that I never did back in the day. It's all about law of averages.

Yep.

Or its a customer who strictly enforces their routing guide. Rate is old and is in the midst of getting updated.

You'd think they would have a third dimension and weight because those matter. If it was a tube/bundle @ 20 lbs. and you're top loading it on a TL of freight it's worth the extra pick and drop for your driver (if there's not a ton of off route miles), if it's massive and heavy not likely worth it at all...

Keep well,
Mike

My bad I left it blank intentionally because I don't remember how high it was, but definitely not something you could load on top of something else.

They are not crooks. You are responsible for what freight rate you agree to. So many people on this forum are blaming the government or Loadlink for rates and or due diligence that they should be looking after themselves. You are responsible for your business, not anyone else.
What do you mean that aren’t crooks they are very much so,
How would you feel on Friday afternoon 10min before the pick up the broker cancel
Your load by saying the customer just cancel it, then you find out from the shipper that they never cancel anything!!!
But the broker is sending someone else that is cheaper than you $25!!!
In this business are so many snakes and crooks from brokers to O/O and transport companies!!!

Trying to operate a business in this industry can be like trying to navigate through a minefield. The best advice anyone can give is to learn from these bad experiences. Just like any other business, there are some really good guys to partner with and some others you should avoid like the plague. Remember, there is no such thing as doing too much research before accepting a load from or giving a load to someone you haven’t dealt with before. Sites like this can be extremely helpful when dealing with an unknown supplier.

You have to find the right people to work with, and there are many out there. We have all had the experience you mention.

Sorry to hear that..
You may inform all parties you are dealing with that you have a cancelation fee, let's say in three digits range..
It may help, eh...
