Cheap Freight of the day

I've always wondered - why the hell would anyone write best regards? As opposed to what? Worst Regards? Somewhere in the Middle Regards? /endrant.

"can we be of service".... lol

My favorite is "with confidence" seen it on Larway emails, i like the ring it has, gets me giggity.

we dont work with them from so long but they call and ask can you cover we just say truck is covered.
Is your truck really covered, or are you just lying to them to get them off the phone. At least that's the way that reads to me, and, I have an issue with that. I don't like liars.

Granted it's a little white lie. But, lying is like crack. It just gets easier, and easier, until the next thing you know you are living on the street, out of a stolen Zehrs shopping cart, and all your teeth have rotted out.

What is wrong with telling them the truth? Why can't you be up front and say "Hey, we don't want to work with you because your rates suck, and we don't like the way you do business." (or whatever your reasons are)? What do you have to lose? You weren't going to work with them anyways, and at least when you are honest about it, it shows integrity.

I can't speak for the rest of the people on this forum, but integrity rates pretty high in my books.
(Not that my opinion should dictate how you run your life or business.)

You'll never change the world by avoiding the subject.

why did you take so personal about but i have wrote.do you work for rome?
How about when broker found cheap carriers to do there load and says to other carrier that its not ready yet. That is also a lie isnt it?
everyone do best for themselves..... here we are talking about cheap rates and brokers ROME IS ONE OF THEM.

oh you must be a broker and dont care about the carriers and the bills they have to pay
If you don’t like brokers and the rates they offer, then why not get your own customers and dictate to them what the rates will be? This isn’t rocket science. Deal with customers, both your own direct shippers and brokers alike, who pay reasonable rates and pay within your terms. Problem solved. If you go to a restaurant and receive a terrible meal, do you keep going back? Of course not. Same with shitty paying brokers….don’t use them! This isn’t a case of someone “caring” about someone else’s bills being paid, it is simple commerce for goodness sakes. Deal with reputable people! As Tom Hanks said in A League of Their Own….”there’s no crying in baseball”, the same applies to transportation.

Let's take that line by line.

I took nothing from your post personally. Frankly, I couldn't care less what you think of me.
Do I work for Rome. No, I do not.
Do I work with Rome? Yes, I do.
Do I haul cheap freight? No, I do not ... even for Rome.
What I do for Rome is between me and Rome, but I will tell you they pay me well above industry average for my services.

I see. So that makes it okay for you to lie?
Riddle me this ... if everyone else jumped off a bridge, would you do it too?

You are 100% correct that everyone does the best for themselves. Why should Rome, or any other broker for that matter, be any different? Are they not entitled to maximize their profits just because they are a broker?
If you are buying a new truck you don't turn down a deal because it's too cheap do you?
If you are financing it, you don't tell the bank the aren't charging enough interest do you?

It never ceases to amaze me that some carriers think that load brokers are supposed to be responsible to carriers for the carriers bills?
Your business is not their business. THEY DO NOT CARE whether you live or die. IT'S NOT THEIR PROBLEM.
Carriers need to stop looking at load brokers as scum bags. Reserve that title for real estate brokers as they deserve it.
At the least, load brokers are nothing more than an extension of a carrier's sales arm. They provide a service for a fee. If you don't like their fee, don't use their service.
At the most, load brokers are integral business partner, and can enhance your business immensely. If you don't believe me, ask any carrier that's been in business for more than 15 or 20 years, albeit, I've been doing this for 41 years now at a company that been trucking for 61 years, and is still going.

Everyone is out for broker but when you start getting enough direct freight you will understand it's the customer that really dictates the rates, they are getting blasted with other brokers sending rates every day so they know where they want to be. This day and age the customer is very well versed in the market condition. We do a consistent lane with a customer and one week before sending the tender she goes "hey can you do $X, fuel came down this week" I was shocked, to say the least

Anyone who thought that the days of “milk and honey “ that we experienced last year and early this year would last indefinitely, certainly doesn’t understand our industry. If someone based their business plan on those rates, failure awaits you, if you haven’t crashed already. Inflated rates like those breeds laziness and complacency as very little thinking is required to turn a profit. Now that rates have returned to earth, the smart carriers who know their costs and how to control them and know their market and how to service it will carry on and continue to succeed. Those who lack those skills will find things more difficult.

American truckers. Flat bed rates in the states go for $1.10/mile on the HIGH end... and they are tickled pink to run it.

While I was typing this reply: "Nolan Transportation" offered a 2 pick, 2 drop from Toronto to Stow OH for a whopping $425! Full tarping, 1 hr per pick-up.
"American truckers. Flat bed rates in the states go for $1.10/mile on the HIGH end... and they are tickled pink to run it." - I would strongly disagree with that statement. My US rates are much, much higher than my Ontario rates right now.
Canadian spot rates are almost not worth touching at this point. It's more cost efficient to send the truck back empty...
