Wait times/ Layovers

Bla, bla, bla...... This has been going on always. Blaming the broker.... The broker is just an extension of the customer, and most of the time is not to be blamed for the rates. They compete to get a customer offering services that are either accepted or not. Period. It will never change. Who facilitates this race to the bottom is the overexposed carriers waiting bent over with their pants down to be 'taken advantage of'. Some holding a bucked of Vaseline to cushion the blow. Until this is changed, NOTHING will change. You can't fix stupid! And, its seems that there is an endless supply of it out there....

A long and interesting read. Thank you all for the information and your thoughts.
I am a broker and do pay wait times and TONU and agree with everyone about the expenses a carrier has to cover.
However, there is the other side of the coin where the carrier tells us his truck will be on site to load at 10 am and shows up at 3:30 pm and is upset that my client won't load him until tomorrow morning (now Sunday). This is a real life story of my client bending over backwards to load a carrier on a Saturday to help him out and he shows up 5 1/2 hours late without a call to advise.
This is happening more and more and we are thinking of reviewing our late fee policy to charge back carriers for pick up appointments missed. If you are going to show up at 4, just tell me the truth and we will either accommodate or we won't. But at least we will be honest with you.
I think it's only fair...

Is walmart ever going to off load on time..LOL fines if your late to deliver but man it is a hurry up and wait when your are there for off loading

If they were actually paying for detention, you will be in and out as quickly as your driver backs into the door.

In my opinion, I would stay away at all costs.

This should be in a separate thread titled nightmare receivers!
Always an issue at Walmart.

Everyone talking about Walmart and how bad it is. No better at Loblaw the care even less
we have appointment and were on time. still let us sit there after check in for 6 hours before taking 5 hours to off load. Guess what.. No Waiting time or lay over. Something needs to be done.

I so agree this is nuts. and to top it off they do not even want to pay the going rate to move the loads. they are taking advantage of the carriers big time.

I agree there are only a couple of bad apples in the Distribution (DC) deliveries. I have no idea what can be done other than do not do the runs for them. Too many carriers out there to do cheap freight and do not care. All they look for is a quick buck and get out of industry.

that will change soon as fuel rates are spiking

Our very FIRST Walmart load in over 10 years as driver / owner/operator / company - and it is excrutiating to say the least....
Nails on a chalkboard sound like a much needed reprieve right now ... #WalmartWoes
At least i see i am not the only one. This is getting exhausting. we are loosing reloads daily because of WalMart with no help.
