Cheap Freight of the day

I've been watching that load go slowly from $900USD to $650USD over the past few months

So I don't know that shipper in question but my guess, they are throwing those loads to spot and there are 2 or more brokers undercutting each other.

Probably the same 3-5 carriers taking the load each time. It's really pathetic but it's the market we are in.

Always that same broker. My guess is they have the volume and are letting the desperate carriers load them at the super low rates knowing that carriers that have no other option will bite

Cheap freight of the day, TWINS LOGISTICS INC
17’ Brampton-Dorval qc $275
Don't call they will repost in 15 minutes with more money and will keep doing that until someone bites BUT wait they will also take it back off you if they can sucker someone into doing it 10 bucks cheaper. Always freight of last resort for us as they will pay but man o man they have no issue cancelling if someone will make them more money. PS that is stupid cheap but they start as low as they thing they may get a sucker for.

That is interesting. We post a few of our loads on Link when we can’t match up with one of our regular carriers. However we never post the rate. If someone calls asking about one of the loads, we will tell them the rate. If they want to make a reasonable counter offer we will consider it. This idea of starting dirt low cheap and then slowly increasing the rate until someone finally bites seems to be way too time consuming. A dispatcher’s time could be better spent handling the next available load at a fair rate, the one after that and so on. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against making a little more money on every load we move but this system seems to be a poor use of employees time in my opinion. Funny…..if as a broker, you rate all of your shipments fairly, you won’t run into these problems. Go figure!

I was trying to find the right words to express my dislike for the posting a rate then inching up but I think you accurately describe what I was feelin.,

That and also that as an employer, I would have a problem with my dispatch team handling our business in this fashion. A good dispatcher is paid a fair wage for their ability to contact carriers, speak intelligently about our customers shipment, negotiate fair rates and find solutions to move freight, correct? Shame!!

Keep well,
Mike

The inching up is dumb. Can't remember the US broker, but there would always be Inbound WI - ON loads and they'd put 1000 usd on the posting. Saves everyone's time. The inching is silly, they do it on their inbound CA lane too

Problem with the method used by Twins Logistics is that people get to understand what they are doing and it is a real turn off. I personally never call them on their postings, for this very reason. It makes it feel like an auction. Rob is right, also they will take that load back from you in a minute. There was only 1 time I ever "booked" a load with them. After about an hour and a half, no confirmation had come, so I called them back to see what information they needed or were missing. Sure enough, the "customer" had "covered" the load. Well that was the end of that. Won't waste my time again.

This is the difference in your corporate culture.

You are acting as a freight manager for your customer and looking for the optimal price / service ratio. Low balling is a waste of time for your dispatchers as negotiating for the absolute lowest possible rate is not their primary job function. You dont "roll" loads to the next day, creating service failures because you did not get the rate you needed, instead you get the load done at the best price available for that day.

Twins Logistics is treating the freight as a commodity and is buying and selling freight to maximize profits. This is their logistics coordinators primary job function and is not considered a waste of time.

For companies that treat freight as a commodity, if they post a load and get an offer of $800, this is the new ceiling and the coordinators job is to try for $750, once this is achieved they have to try for $700. They only stop when the Account Manager is satisfied that they are making enough margin -- this their individual commission and is not tied to the cost of having the logistics coordinators pushing for the extra $50.

Which reminds me of the time earlier this year they had a GTA to Miami FL dry load starting at 3200cad and seen it inch up to 4200cad... about 50-100$ increases at a time
