US Tariffs

The only “concession” Mexico made was to place 10000 National Guard troops on the US border. Whether this is in addition to or replacing the 8700 troops they already placed there under the Biden administration has not been revealed. Hardly a “major” concession but hopefully enough for the Don to tell his supporters that he “beat down” Mexico and made them succumb to American might. If Trudeau plays his cards right, making some sort of allowance for American banks to increase their exposure here in Canada could get us a month reprieve as well. Remember, this isn’t about drugs, illegals or even making better trade deals. It is only to provide the Don with the theatre he craves and the opportunity it gives him to appear strong to his supporters. As long as they can chant…”USA…USA…USA” they’ll be satisfied.

Major in the sense that it only bought Mexico 28 days.

About his unhappiness with banking.. I think we should just wait a couple of hours... by around 3:00 pm it will be about something else.. maybe bottled water.. who knows.

The great pumpkin has spoken... The tariffs that were supposed to take effect on January 20th that were later delayed to February 1st have now been delayed to March 1st...

Hmmm... I have a prediction for the future... The tariffs will be delayed to April 1st and will then be declared an April Fools Joke! Haahahahaa...

I don't care how he did or does it so long as they do not get put on period. Agent Orange is a wild card to say the least.

So why didn’t Trump simply request these things without going through this whole drama? This is the way the orange moron does business now that he is the leader of the world’s most powerful nation. I will put a gun to your head until you give me what I want. All this additional personnel and the two, new shiny Black Hawk helicopters had better find more than the measely 20 kgs of fentanyl discovered last year. A big deal so that the headlines on Fox can read…”A big win for America”…..”Trump shows Canada and Mexico who’s boss”….Sickening!

Sadly yes, that's exactly how it will play out.

He didn't request these from the outset because he himself likely didn't know what the justification should be.. As late as this afternoon he was going heavy on how unfair we've been on access to banking. a few hours later nothing about that mentioned on his second call with the PM... we're now back to chasing fentanyl at the border. Tomorrow is another day... no more drama until March 1? Haha.. I doubt it..

Maybe I will give it a read. I did attempt it years ago but never got through it...

This evening he once again stated that he doesn't need our products or energy.. which of course begs the question.. why have you been buying them for decades? Is there a clause somewhere that requires Americans to purchases Canadian products and energy? It's a serious question..It would be like me going to a store... buying a bunch of stuff.. and then bitching at the manager about how I could have bought the same stuff at another store closer to my house. Just makes no sense at all..

And we're back...

Hopefully everyone has enjoyed the past 30 days... I know we have had a busy couple of weeks as today's deadline approached...

So far, we have had 3 previously booked loads cancelled on us and we expect that trend to continue... We received an email blast from one customer to let all their carriers know that any pickups previously scheduled are now cancelled until further notice.

Anyone else already feeling the pain?

We do, same here. Also, some loads are stuck and cannot cross the border.
It will be extremelty difficult in the next days / weeks if nothing changes.

Still full steam ahead here. I think just cause the product got more expensive it's not going to reduce the need for it, at least in the short term.

What we have noticed is that the customers that were prepared are still shipping and have made arrangements to either lower their prices, split the tariffs or other solutions. The ones that are scrambling or cancelling loads and holding loads are the ones that thought orangeman was bluffing.

The way things are going for the stock market, I can't see this holding out for very long. Tariffs this high dont work in heavily globalized economies.

Imo it won't be long before they reach a trade agreement that benefits both sides. There's too much blowback from the markets on the tariffs and you know the Donald loves to please the markets and shareholders.

Yes, forget about tariffs for a minute.. A big decline in peoples’ net worth and retirement savings will take alot of the shine off the old Trumpster. Even Hotel Gaza won’t help him then.

M huge Manufacture whos head office is in the US, but ship most of their product from their Toronto plant to the US cancelled all loads to the US and also is starting to look into layoffs already

Booking loads from OH to TX this morning…as an aside..a brief conversation with shipper about tariffs.. He said “I have no idea wtf you’re talking about”..I guess not a big issue of concern for them.
I had this exact convo with a shipper in WV. Yes, this is WV so grain of salt but...

Literally had no idea what I was talking about with the tarriffs... Lower man on the totem pole mind you but still gives you an idea into the minds of Americans.
