One would think that our supposed head of state King Charles would chime in to our defence.. the silence is deafening.
Yup, that's how politicians like Pelosi have salaries of $100-200k and yet somehow rack up a net worth of $200M plus.Big boys are collecting their discounted shares at the moment, tariffs will be over when they tell Donny they're good to go. No worries friends, not much longer now.
I am still figuring this all out, what I learned a few weeks ago is the cost for companies really move their business internally to US will be more than just passing the 25% cost off to their customers in the end. I am spooked to see the results of this but lets hope it ends asap.Is this really the only thread on the coming US Tariffs? Or did I miss out on a previous conversation? haahahaa...
On the eve of what could be a substantial first shot across the bow of this coming trade war, thought I would see what you guys are thinking/talking about out there...
It would seem to me that our industry may have the most to lose in this potential trade war because whatever goods are subject to tariffs in the end, we are most likely the ones shipping these goods at the present time.
I know at our company this has been a major topic of discussion for the past weeks and months... will they? won't they? how bad can it be? yadda yadda yadda...
We have very few runs that we do that don't involve crossing the border... If US companies stop or even slow down purchasing the products that we haul, where does that leave us and our employees?
What kinds of conversations are you guys having out there?
Anybody still think this isn't going to happen or won't be a big deal?
46 months is a very long time when the 2 months has felt like 2 years.I recently returned from a week and a half in Miami, the Caribbean and more time in Miami. This trip was book a year in advance, so let's not discuss keeping my vacation money away from American coffers.
As mentioned by another poster, there is little to no coverage about a 'trade war' with Canada. We sure see it on our televisions, but down there we're just a brief headline.
I found it interesting that of the several dozen Americans we met with, socialized with, broke bread with, drank with, gambled with, etc... while we tried not to discuss politics too much it seemed that not a single one of them supported or voted for DT. I wonder if people who did vote for him are now in denial for their sins? We were staying in nice hotels and were on a cruise so I would hazard a guess that those we encountered were educated, successful people. All of these people still love their Canadian friends (not just Kerry and I) so I guess the propaganda that is being flooded by the American media and Social Media is being directed to his actual supporters who would be mainly lesser educated, back woods, incestuous, knuckle dragging kinda people? It's too bad that those people form a majority...
Part of me says, well we're two months in and maximum 46 to go, it won't be all that bad. 46 months is a long time and I feel like something different may happen. I have a gut feeling whatever that will be won't be good. I'd better stockpile toilet paper, canned goods and prepare to move out to the sticks.
Sorry about the rant, at least I feel a little better now...
Mike
Thing with US new is each channel puts out what their demographic wants to see, Trumps. Right wing news channels are not covering it as much as they dont want to spook those that voted for trump. Alot of people are about to see the FO stage of FAFO, especially a lot of blue collar workers in the auto and steel industries that favored DJT. Things arent as simple as pack up and go, it takes years to move facilities and set them up and massive investment. This will hurt our neighbors more than they'd like to admit. Saw a post this morning in a Mustang forum on FB. Apparently, folks who ordered the Ford Mustang GTD, a $325K USD track beast, just found out they are getting hit with an extra $80K thanks to tariffs. The car is built by Multimatic in Ontario, and buyers are only now being told about the added cost. Crazy to see the effects kicking in this fast, it’s only been a day.As mentioned by another poster, there is little to no coverage about a 'trade war' with Canada. Ive longed for a news station that reports nothing but facts. Unfortunately, that happening is on the same timeline as my lottery win.Thing with US new is each channel puts out what their demographic wants to see, Trumps. We were in Nashville in December. Lovely server says, "where y'all from". We reply, Canada. She thinks a moment and says "that's by New York right?"their news cycle is so full with the crap Agent orange is pulling the tariffs are far down the list to the yanks unless it affects them now they are for the most part brain dead. Bet half have no idea where Canada even is.
Automotive gets a reprieve until 4/2. thats the extent of it for now.I guess we’ll have to wait for what Lutnick says this afternoon. Likely will have to wait until after 4:00 pm when markets are closed.
It very unclear on what that reprieve involves, is it on all automotive components/parts or just on finished vehicles? Also sounds like its just for GM, Ford and Stelantis.Automotive gets a reprieve until 4/2. thats the extent of it for now.
Vast majority of Americans doesn't even have a passeport. They don't know anything outside their own state.I guess we’ll have to wait for what Lutnick says this afternoon. Likely will have to wait until after 4:00 pm when markets are closed.
I'm pretty sure it can and will get worse than thisFour more years of this shit..
yep same here x 5So, we've just experienced another potential issue...
With the news from last night that Lutnick is going around begging for an off-ramp, people are thinking this thing may be over soon...
With that in mind, we just had a back-haul cancelled on us, because in their words, why would I ship this now and pay the counter tariff when I could just wait a few days and ship it tariff free?
