Trucker Convoy

Freedom. Hmmmmm, free to plug up traffic and disrupt commerce, free to assemble in large numbers, free to yell obscenities at elected officials and threaten physical violence. And this isn’t a free country? Perhaps some of these characters should visit one of the many other countries in the world that do not tolerate that type of disruptive behaviour. Might be a bit of an eye opener.

At first I thought a small group of anti vaxers causing a bit of a stir. Now they have gained momentum and I have come to the conclusion that this is the first time the trucking industry has banded together in an almost whole across Canada to protest something. The Indian community would do it and no one really paid attention but they did cause some change. Maybe this is the start to the Trucking Community banding together on more than just this one issue and fight for the whole industry on issues like rest stops, E logs, Speed limiters, fuel prices. Insurance or anything else that the Goverment causes us all to loose money for no reason. Just my 2 cents.
I wish this was about infrastructure, services for truckers etc... this banding together can achieve so much respect for drivers and make our roads safe... There are so many narratives - BC roads down we had to route thru the US - during Covid with no vaccine truckers still worked and couldn't even get coffee as they couldn't drive thru, drivers are mostly isolated in their interactions with people on the road... a logical argument goes a long way

Wow, the commentary here is really disturbing. There are so many things to note about how our "Government" handled this virus so poorly. The lack of consistency is one of the major problems. Example: I can't go to a HEALTH club (note the word HEALTH) but I can stand with 500 people in Costco? Wake up everyone. They discredit an anti viral drug to use against Covid but pass that same drug out in India to help them. Then Pfizer and Merck come up with, you guessed it, an anti viral drug. This is all about Capitalism, it has nothing to do with health any longer. Our Governments have been run by large Corporations for far too long. I'm glad that the truckers are taking a stance. Maybe there is a back story and agenda I don't know about, but at least someone is making a stance in some way. Damn Canadians. We all sit on our couches and complain, or we post in social media thinking we made a stance. Or post here, like I am doing now. LOL

Let's face it, when this hit, nobody had any idea what to do. So they did what they thought was best. 2 years later and we are still doing the same thing and expecting different results. Isn't that everyones favorite definition of insanity. Why didn't we spend all that money on more healthcare workers, expedite and pay to teach nurses. Why aren't there any more ICU beds and ventilators? Why do I personally know of 3 high school students who were still in High School full time, and collected the CERB and now have $30,000.00 of my tax dollars in their account and they are not being asked to pay it back.

Does anyone realize that a vaccine comes out and guess what, we have the largest amount of Covid cases ever, but there can't be a link right? They tell us the vaccine lowers the symptoms and less people will be hospitalized? I see that is working out. The CDC even changed the definition of a vaccine for this vaccine alone. This isn't a vaccine. They want us taking it every 3 months. This is simply another medication that they created to have even more revenue for life. Look up the person that created the vaccine for polio and was disturbed when they asked him if he was going to patent a cure that can save the world. He gave it away. If this was as bad as we are told, wouldn't all of these Doctors and scientists have come together to save the planet? Not to simply raise profits. They tell us give us a few weeks to flatten the curve? New variants? The unvaccinated? Always and excuse and an agenda to pass the blame on everyone but themselves. We keep buying into it. We're Canadian, home of the True North strong and FREE? Strong and FREE? It's humorous. Maybe it's time to change our national anthem.

If your Government has ever lied to you, why would you trust them so quickly? For those who aren't sure, yes, they lie to us almost daily.

When government fears the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. Guess what we have now? (V for Vendetta sure had a point)

I don't have all the answers and I am the last one that should be complaining considering the way I live. I do pay far too much tax for a system we have allowed. For those that think "voting" is the only way we have to make a change, I'm sorry it is far too late for that. We've created a system that is bought and paid for by Corporations. We've created a system of liars and ZERO accountability. Sounds like a really great way for democracy. So lets all go out and vote for the next person that can take away our freedoms. The worst part may be what our children are learning about democracy. They have learned the government is in total control and they have no say in anything.

Sorry, I likely won't debate all of this as I totally understand we will never sway each others opinion. Well I have one too, and this all has nothing to do with being about health. if it was, cigarettes would have been banned a long long time ago.

Hope you all have a great day and I hope the world understands one day that TRUCKERS RUN THE WORLD. Not BIG PHARMA.

My guys will be hauling freight to support or economy. While I will keep my personal opinion to myself ( yes mark it down you smartasses) this is the first time in a long while for a protest like this. Right or wrong it seems to be gaining a hell of s lot of speed and press. We shall see I guess.
I'm observing the goverment reaction to any kind of a protest in our industry.
Not long ago dump truck drivers had a few protests about industry mandates for weight distributions and SPIFs..
Goverment caved in...
Drivers who are in convoy not looking for an excuse not to work, but be a valuable part of an industry and not to be segregated.
I guess you are noticed I kept my opinion to myself, eh..
sir I need your opinion its great sign after a long time drivers gathered at one page for such cause. but most important to focus freight rate offer by canadian brokers or us brokers for OUTBOUND.
Secondly insurance obligated carrier cannot hire any driver less than 3 years experience.
but why if any driver having 10 years experience and proceed to work as a owner operator even insurance company does not consider them

Well, what you're asking is a secondary problem at the moment..

I was disgusted and truly saddened by the behaviour of a small number of protesters this weekend in Ottawa. I sincerely hope that no members of our industry were personally involved. Staging an event that you knew, or should have known would attract the lunatic fringe is a tragic mistake. My fear is that these isolated incidents could tarnish the reputation of our entire industry. Keep in mind this has been called the truckers Freedom Convoy since the start. In spite of the distancing all major trade associations have tried, we as industry own this one, including all the warts! Hopefully in time, the public will remember the worthwhile contributions we make to society and not the foolish, criminal actions of a few misguided, over stimulated fools.

My thoughts exactly. If I owned a business and saw any of my employees acting like that, I'd be interviewing new candidates by lunch!

Any positivity and credibility out of this event, is ruined in a fraction of a second with actions on the war memorial, Terry Fox statue that we know of now. I'm sure more stories and videos will emerge in the days to come and all will be for nothing as this will get the attention from media, not the real message they were trying to convey.

Unfortunately the far left lunatics and the far right lunatics take the word "freedom" literally as to mean they can do whatever they want, whenever they want and to whoever they want. This is why we see the burning, looting and violence all across North America.

Whether you agree or disagree with what people are protesting, their message is now lost thanks to the extreme fringe. Holding a city and their hardworking people and businesses hostage is not how we do things in a democracy.

Yup - the same story with Winnipeg retailers - rude, unruly etc.. behavior. Heard it wasn't the actualy truckers but the support vehicles...

I hope to think most people can see through the paid media's attention to this. Really, hanging a Canadian flag on a Terry Fox statue? Is that our equivalent to storming the White House? Terrorists is a word being thrown around. The obvious lack of media coverage and blatant attempt to make it look much smaller than it was. (CBC was hilarious) Let's face it, in the end, nothing will come of this. Keep in mind, back in 1976 there was the largest labor dispute ever under, guess who, Justin's Daddy. My understanding is it took 2 years for wage control to stop and Trudeau was voted out. So maybe some awareness is what comes from this. Thank you to all who are in this convoy. Some of us really noticed and appreciate the effort.

This protest allowed itself to become a catch basin for every person and every group with an axe to grind about pretty much anything. Making excuses for or remaining silent about the deplorable actions a few of them is extremely disappointing. Thank you to those who acted in a civilized manner, shame on those that did not. My biggest thanks however, are for those professional, dedicated drivers who have rolled up their sleeves and got vaccinated and stayed on the job during this embarrassing fiasco.

Just read this thread and it shows how there are so many different opinions. We should be glad we live in a country that allows us to have these opinions and protest things we don't like. We all want to go back to how things were pre-covid, but everyone has different opinions on the best path.

We should all be thankful that we do not live in downtown Ottawa with streets blocked off, protesters harassing residents and constant horn blowing. A great way to make your point, holding innocent home owners hostage in their own homes. Time for this circus to fold up their tents and go home. Point made, enough already. The country’s patience with this action is waning and quickly.
