Total Quality Logistics

I believe I've said this before, but your experience with them is going to vary by agent, because the agents really run their own show. Some are professional, some are jokers. You have to weed them out.

Sounds about right for them. They call here a couple times a month looking to cover any overflow I have. I just ask them why do I need you and the one guy was bold enough to tell me they had over 50,000 trucks. I asked him when they bought them and then the back peddling started. google them and read what employee's have to say about them. Sounds like a wolf of wall street freight brokerage to me.

Lowmiler has it right add a TQL surcharge as they are all about them and the bottom line. They could care a less about you ,your drivers or weather or not the truck makes money it is all them all the time. Matrineav sometimes it is better to come home empty then to let them bend you over dry because it is slow. I would grab 2 skids for fuel before take some of the crap they offer.
Well, the only times we have really been disappointed is when it comes to collecting waiting time with them. Often times we quote and are told that we are much to expensive. If they are really hard up they will usually come up with close to what we wanted. But what is cheaper taking their load or paying the driver layovers. Sometimes it needs to be looked at from more than one perspective. I usually get them with my witty sense of humor
I have never been disrespected by them in any way and the lowest rate we took from them was a load out of Alberta down to Iowa. It was hay. We were treated much better than when we took two loads of dog food from C.H. Robinson out of the same area down to California. Dirt low price per mile and then had to pay over $130 in order to fax the paperwork. They couldn't be bothered to take care of us or help us out with the customer. Our revenge, as usual, was to do a fantastic job... ;)

The jerks don't call back. Every extra penny they give you comes out of their own paycheck. The less they pay out the more they keep in their pockets.

So I had to set up a new carrier, but I was unsure about them, they had a few references listed, one being TQL OH. I seriously don't understand how TQL stay in business after multiple attempts trying to describe why I was calling the guy became rude. After a few minutes of a dog and pony show, I finally said can you just tell me if you have used this carrier at any point, that's when I got the "please hold and I will transfer you line". We have all done it called another broker, looking for some insight into a carrier, no need to be a d**k about it.

They call me for freight, and I'm a broker. Every week someone calls.. I try to make the most of it by assessing their sales pitches and comparing them to my own. I then offer them a dirt cheap rate to get them off the phone. Today I offered one of them $.85/mi on a load of lumber out of Quebec. You could almost hear them gasping for air on the other end as I stated the load needs GOOD 8 ft. tarps. Ultimately they didn't bite, but occasionally I do get Landstar, TQL, et al to take one of these winners.. I get my loads moved at a fat profit margin AND I do my bit to put a competitor out of business. Two birds, one stone. Got to love it.

Did you know that you can't haul for TQL if you don't have an MC number? It's okay for them to have loads that pick up in Canada and deliver to somewhere else in Canada - but a Canadian carrier can't do the job! Is the system broken or what? WTF???

It just pisses me off that it is a Canadian load but a Canadian carrier can't do it because they don't go into the States.

Even some US carriers don't have an MC number.. i.e. those who haul freight that was in the old times referred as "exempt" from regulation or if they're "private carriers" who haul only their own goods, or if they're intrastate only. Maybe get a USDOT number. Unless things have changed since I got mine, USDOT numbers are free of charge, just apply and they send you one. You will be subject to some reporting requirements that will take all of about 10 minutes a year. Surely TQL will take a USDOT number..TQL got their start in produce and surely some of their current supplier carriers have no MC. If your contact insists on an MC I'd go higher up or ask for someone else. Someone there might understand that loads within Canada are not subject to US regulatory requirements.

Freight Broker - We have a US Dot # but it doesn't matter. They say that they will only take carriers that have active MC numbers because it makes it easier to trace the loads. They lost me on that one.

Thanks to those who suggested we will do better looking elsewhere. It sounds petty but I really hope they get a carrier like BTI Cartage to pick it up!

They have been talking for years about making a change and letting Canadian Carriers move Canadian freight, without an MC.

Really getting sick of the DAILY phone calls asking if they can "co-broker" our loads. I have asked twice to be removed from the call list, it's never the same person calling however, and I doubt I am making an headway...

when they call I offer them my weekly special.. I look through what I've got and pick out the heaviest shorthop load that i can find.. that requires tarping as well as oddball appointments on both ends. .. and offer it to them for a buck a mile.. Usually that ends it.

Sorry guys if it's a bit of the topic BUT.... 100% agree with thebluffs1 ... here is the story of my day with them TODAY...
TQL's load: DRY... ON to USA (1 day trip) FOOD related so FDA is involved. Customs broker information is not on Load and/or Driver's sheet so called TQL right the way to get the customs info... respond: "don't worry shipper will have everything tomorrow for the driver"
6 AM truck showing up for his pick up... 1 hour later truck loaded ... BUT shipper doesn't have any paperwork except Packaging slip (size of toilet paper, written by hand)...
Call TQL, explained them the situation (truck is not able to leave shipper until BOL is provided, so detention will be charged after 2 hours from truck arrival until paperwork is provided)....was transferred to THE manager. Here is the respond from THE manager:
"... OOOO you one of THOSE companies that claims tons of money for nothing..."
"... we will not charge our client for missing paperwork..."
"... 2 hours rule apply only for the appointment, FCFS facility if 5 hours it is in our policy, that you signed, you have to read 1st before signing it..."
....
(Quality Costumer Service and Nice Phone/emails manners are #1 for me, but I almost lost myself after I was called "one of THOSE companies".... I checked the agreement that was signed with them way way back, and it has nothing about detention...) May be any of you here can explain which policy they referring to?
...
Here is two options provided to me by the TQL manager for this situation:
Option #1. You can leave shipper facility or wait for the paperwork over there... your choice, BUT no addition compensation will be made for any issue/delay related or not related to this delay. by the way delivery appointment better not to be missed, because no one will paying it.
Opinion #2. (I was in shock, when I heard this option) We can take you FROM this LOAD (despite the fact the trailer is loaded already... they will not pay for the cancellation or anything else, because I'm one of "THOSE" companies who claims money for nothing and wasting everyone's time.
... (30 minutes on the phone and both agreed on option #1) ...
4 hours and 50 minutes later, I got the paperwork BUT no one telling me who is going to clear this load.... now my truck is waiting beside the border until everyone will finish their lunch at TQL...
...
My question of the day is WHY? WHY I agreed to this loaded? WHY?
...
THIS IS A TYPICAL STORY when you dealing with TQL (specially when load crossing the board) CANADA only loads also have problems like on the delivery day you can find out the load from Montreal to Guelph, ON is going to Calgary, AB (ops TQL's clerical mistake on BOL)... OR.... shipment from Calgary to Edmonton have no paperwork at all (no weight, no count, etc) respond: "why you need paperwork if truck is not crossing the boarder!" ... all this from personal experience and I can go on and on about TQL because every second their shipment has some kind of problem for which their will NOT willing to pay to you (cause you one of "THOSE" companies)
I already start asking them if this line is regular line that you do... (because you don't what to be the 1st one!) ...
...
100% it will be last load with them for me, since I'm one of "THOSE companies"
Do you want to join me in "THOSE companies" club?
It takes ONE shipment with TQL, and you already spending $$$ on club membership FEE!
