Rome Transportation/Rome Logistics

We have been dealing with Rome for many years - no issues and professional. From a payment perspective - they are solid at 45 days and Anne is A/P.

Rates are skinny is an understatement.

Fuel goes up, rates go down. I can't figure it out.

That's been the major trend since 2008 when this so called recession started. It's retarded to say the least. Called on a load from Concord to Alco, Tn, full tarps, expensive product and are you ready, a walloping $1.44 a mile WOW makes you wish he had thousands of these and couldn't move one. The unfortunate part is these clowns out there fight over these type of loads, whats wrong with people? That load and all others based on todays fuel prices, interest on loans, truck prices for repairs and let's not forget driver's wages, should pay minimum twice that rate.It would pay better to write them a cheque and leave the load in Concord.

I agree with Ricwill. Rome offered me a load from Wallingford, CT to Guelph, ON for $ 700.00 CDN. That works out to $ 1.36 / mile. My truck was posted in Brooklyn, NY. No way I can run my truck for that load because then I'm down to $1,.13/ mile before adding the toll road.. Better to write them a cheque for $ 100.00. I'd further ahead.

Rome Transport,

They call here atleast twice a day looking for rates I have chosen to not rate them anymore as well over 200 rates given last year and 1 shipment. Not worth the hassle they are just looking to find the cheapest carrier everytime service and history means nothing to them it is all about cheap and Rome's profit..

I get many loads a week with Rome and work well with the most of the people in all their offices. Their rates havn't been helping our rising fuel cost, but atleast they pay us on time.

I definitely hate rating for them all the time, but atleast I am getting consistent freight from them...

I also do not provide them rates because it seems that they are constantly fishing for what appears to be the cheapest. A guy named Steve would pump all the time for rates and told him that I haven't seen a lick of freight but still I'm their unpaid rates department so no more rates until I get some freight lol. My polite angle is to ask them "what kind of number are you looking to beat?" and generally it's a number that is cheap. Then I tell them I can't compete with it and they should go use that carrier because the rate is good. I also find that people will say "oh, you're the first person I'm calling for a quote" when I ask who else has quoted. Then I ask how come I'm not the first they called when they have freight? LOL. Good times.

This makes no sense to me. They can give you a 100 loads a week and pay you on delivery but if the crappy rates they pay is not enough to pay the bills you are going to go broke no matter how many loads you haul for them and how fast they pay. I have moved freight for them and they do pay in reasonable time but i also get the rate i want or i dont haul it.

Rome phone call

" What would you need?"
$1600.
"Oh we can only pay $1300"
"If I said $1200 would you give me $1300?"

Is anyone taking the 50,000lbs from Hamilton to NJ for $1200?
If thats too heavy maybe they can do two $600's LOL

Rome has been around for awhile, the longest person working there is around 2 years or less. Seems they can't keep any employees whether they are good or not. They call for rates because they don't have anyone there with experience that can actually figure it out for themselves. And because they are a broker so they would rather shop around for the cheapest rate.

Other then that... yes they will pay.
