Looking for a pick up 26 skids. skids are 48 x 45 x 105 and weight is 28,444 lbs. These are plastic shipping bins. Not for SCM

omg, really I just realized that this was JeffC's first post on InsideTransport....

JeffC, I Just want to ensure we stay away from a carrier/broker (Your company) offering to broker another carriers work through their in-house brokerage department. Seems so dirty....

We are a carrier with a brokerage division, and we would NEVER consider soliciting a carrier or a broker offering to do a load through our brokerage division instead of our assets, even if it was advised in advance that its being brokered it out..... we and a large part of the industry consider this very un-ethical.

Well put EricG. I don't think that any of the members of this site, brokers or carriers, want to see it become a "clearing house" for double/triple brokering. If a carrier, who has broker authority (if the shipment is to or from the US), wants to offer freight that he can't handle with his own assets to another carrier, or, if a broker is looking for a carrier to handle a specific shipment or lane, we're all OK with that. Let's not get into the same mess that we all seem to complain about with Load Link.
 
He is just offering to Co-Broker. That is a perfectly acceptable business model to some. Carriers think it is shameful but some brokers have made a pretty good living doing it. Others just do it for a short period of time and disappear with all the carrier's money.

Rob, as you've said, Co-Broker seems to work for some people (not us) until someone doesn't get paid, then its a complete mess. I don't know how many times we've been asked by a broker to pickup from XX company in Toronto and deliver to YYY company in Toronto, only to find out at the at the pickup when the shipper refused to load, that he was expecting ACME LOGISTICS (Broker) to pickup as the 2 skids are going to Cali, however we are picking up our client BOB LOGISTICS, we call BOB LOGISTICS, and they say tell the shipper this...

"You are picking up for ACME LOGISTICS, on behalf of BOB Logistics for freight being hauled by XXX CARRIER, who is hauling it to Fresno, California" all of which is questionable in my book of ethics.

Its it just safer and more profitable to find your own direct clients.... we do....
 
Like most questionable business decisions, if everything goes smoothly and nothing de-rails, all is well. However, I have found that sort of "gambling" a poor excuse for proper risk management. Although our firm has never been involved in it, I can see how one broker could enlist the assistance of another broker to move a troublesome shipment. As long as the original customer gets his freight moved without incident, why not? In my opinion, it creates an extra layer of contact that I do not have control over. I have no idea what kind of relationship the second broker has with the carrier, or even who or what type of carrier is involved. From a carrier's perspective, there is now the unknown of when and who will be paying the invoice. No thank you, I prefer to deal with my own clients, make my promises to them and select my carriers to do the work. Too many links in what could be a weak chain for my liking.
 
Guess what?? I am not a broker or in fact a carrier. I work for a private distribution company and we have some stock that we have bought and need shipping from point A to point B.
 
Faey06, if your company owns the goods then you are acting as a shipper, and of course you can move your freight with either a carrier or a freight broker as you see fit. I think that some of us thought that you were acting as a broker, moving other people's goods.

Loaders - I wouldn't dream of doing that - I have seen enough on this site to know it's bad! But thanks for the heads up - I will know in future to write "my goods" after a post :)
