US Tariffs

my daughter's friends asked if they could ship their Shein order to us and they would come in teh summer and pick it - lol - business oppurtunity
I'm sure the more creative folks out there will find ways to get around these duties , especially those operating on a larger scale than just teenagers buying Shein hauls LOL. Not long ago, a local company here actually got busted for transshipment fraud they were importing goods and falsely labeling them as "Made in Canada." I wouldn’t be surprised if we see more of that happening, along with an increase in undervaluation tactics some shippers are already using.

Now that the U.S. and China are locked in a full-blown trade war, it'll be interesting to see how things play out. I wonder if Americans will start heading up to Canada to buy Chinese or other foreign goods, then just bring them back across the land border. Could get really interesting depending on how strict customs gets.
67% drop in US import bookings from last week, with bookings in last 7 days at 169k TEU's, the week prior 516K.

I doubt these tariffs will stand for long. There's too much pressure around the world to remove them... even from Trump's inner circle. Elon's tussle with Peter Navarro is only the beginning. When the layoffs start en masse the poop will hit the fan, and (hopefully) this will all be over.

We need someone to spin it so he looks like he wins!

Thank God The Masters starts tomorrow. Finally something to watch besides the news! The calming music, the pastoral green fairways, the chirping of the cardinals….priceless! One of the most memorable trips of my life was my 2014 visit to Augusta to watch The Masters. Unforgettable.

Markets are rallying hard. And almost every country has come back to negotiate with DJT. I saw even CNN the other day was praising him.. We are going to touch all time highs before Summer 2025 calling it now.

Thanks for the reminder! Will definitely be watching. I bet that trip to watch in 2014 was AMAZING. Who won?

That year Bubba Watson won his second green jacket, however we were unable to stay until the end as our flight left in the mid afternoon on Sunday. An unbelievable experience however.

Ah, that's a bummer you missed the finale!! Such is life though, although I'm sure being stuck in the warm weather for a few extra days wouldn't have hurt your feelings too badly. lol

Long seen as one of the safest investments in the world, US government bonds are under pressure as investors are dumping them due to the instability of current US trade policy. In addition, China, one of the largest holders of these bonds maybe selling them off as leverage against the US in their tariff fight. Although today’s reversal may temporarily calm some investors nerves, all that has happened is the severest tariffs have been kicked down the road for 90 days, all of the others are still in effect. Trump can talk tough to the Chinese all he wants, but they hold a pretty strong hand in this dispute.

Our newest hurdle we had to overcome: the importer of record did not have enough credit at the broker to fulfill the tariff/duties and transaction fee so the load had to wait until paid. Formerly a couple thousand credit limit was all that was needed and now everyone has to negotiate a higher credit limit or pre-pay.
Happened to us as well.

IMHO ... that's about as close as anyone has come to the real truth. Does anyone really believe that Trump actually gives a shit about anyone other than himself and those he owes money to?
Dollars to donuts says he is personally sitting on a mountain of cash. Break the economy, drop the stock market like a stone, jump in with cash when it hits rock bottom, and come out the other side a trillionaire.

Just for fun ... my version of the Carney/Trump phone call.

5 minutes before the official call, Carney whips out his trusty cell phone and call Trump's cellie ...
Mark: Don, it's me, Mark Carney.
Don: I'm gonna hit you guys so bad with tariffs ...
Mark: Don, I hate to interrupt you but, you know Ghislaine is a personal friend, right?
Don:
Mark: You know they took pictures of everything , right?
Don: :eek::eek::eek:
Mark: I'll call you on the official phone in a minute.

(Trust me, I'm no Liberal fan)
That is exactly how Obama made out like a genius when he bailed out GM during the last financial crisis. Here's an influx of cash in exchange for a few bazillion shares. Of course GM came back to life and the rest is history.

Now part two of your statement is a crack up. Only problem, I don't think Don gives a crap.
