Hi All,

I'm looking for a consulting firm that can help set up a U.S. division for my Canadian-based trucking company ideally someone who offers complete A to Z service.

This would include:
  • U.S. business incorporation
  • USDOT/MC authority setup
  • BOC-3 filing
  • IFTA/IRP registration
  • Insurance and compliance setup
  • Immigration support for both business owners and drivers (e.g. TN, L1, E2 visas)

If you've worked with a firm that specializes in cross-border trucking setups and can handle both corporate and immigration aspects end to end, I’d really appreciate any recommendations.

Thanks in advance!

If this is a division why not just open up an office in USA and use current INC, MC and insurance policy. Just need to follow up with IRS and state filings as needed

Yes I agree with AgentSmith. Most brokers will not work with new MC #s which makes it extremely difficult to start a new company.

I believe theres a few companies that have done this recently that i know of. I don't know of anyone in particular that has a business that sets these up, however maybe worth a call to a lawyer in that field or perhaps one of these businesses that handles ifta, filings etc for Canadian trucking companies..?

Sorry not much help, but let us know if you have made any progress on the matter!

we are also looking same , i found one law firm who can help in immigration only ,not full package ,if you find anything please share details we can hire same firm

Yes, unfortunately, most of these firms only offer immigration services. I found one that offers the full package, but no answer, and they looked scammy.

Hi, did you end up finding someone who could help you to set up your company in the US?

Yes, we have clients with US to US freight that are requesting we start operations with a 4 year contract. It just makes sense to not pass up on the opportunity.
What makes more sense is getting the fuck out of Canada !!!
That's a choice pretty much everyone has to make these days ... sell out or move out.

I dont want to call it to early but i have good word our firm is looking to focus on the US market, which will eventually result in the downsizing or complete wind-down of their Canadian operations. I'm not in ownership, so I dont see the entire picture, but I do think that's what's happening. Many out east have already started the gradual shift and have been seeing many ON/QC based firms setting up shop in MI/IN/OH/IL.

I play in the US sandbox... and let me tell you. It's way better.

The volume is 10x what Canada is.

The amount of opportunity is endless.

Reality Check ... there is no reason to believe Canada will economically bounce back in either the near or mid-term future. Essentially an economical wasteland for the next 10 years or so. I don't even think the conservatives can save us now.
They only possible path forward that I can imagine:
Poilievre cedes leadership to Danielle Smith, and becomes her deputy, ... "just a girl and her pitbull".
Doug Ford resigns. The guy is just too dumb to continue in any type of leadership role.
Canadians in general get off the stupid train.
We have an election in 3 weeks.
None of that is going to happen, but every kid at least gets a wish for Christmas, right ??? ... LOL
Sadly, becoming the 51st state is starting to look pretty good.
What is more likely to happen ...
Alberta will cede from Confederation and become the 51st state.
Saskatchewan will follow becoming the 52nd.
Manitoba will waffle, but eventually join Alberta and Saskatchewan and cede becoming the 53rd.
The northern territories will join Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.
Ontario will try and go it alone, and fail, eventually become the 54th state.
Quebec will cede thinking they can go it alone. They will wither and die, probably still believing Alberta owes them money.
The Maritimes will cede back to England, or maybe France.
BC will smoke some more weed. Nobody wants them.
And, Hockey Night in Canada will just become Hockey Night !!!
