ALWAYS call Interport Border Services in Mississauga (if crossing Fort Erie) to verify the invoice provided by your carrier to you has not been doctored if not a long standing trusted relationship. They will not send you a copy but you can request to verify information like the time, the carrier name, the consignee and destination info, the fee etc...

I'm in the middle of dealing with a carrier that may be trying to bill each LTL client on this TL the same $355 by fraudulently forging the Consignee/Destination information and sending to all of his customers. The writing is close, the width of the pen strokes is slightly thinner... This case could be a driver misleading his dispatcher but more than likely not...

If I discover that this is in fact what is happening, I will post all of the carrier information to protect you, my peers.

Keep well,
Mike

Hi Mike,
Glad your on top of things. Don't expect you putting words in any bodies mouth as, this is an open blog!
Interport Border Service is a joke!! Last year we had a Carrier (don't want to mention the company) Tripple 8 - Out of Surrey, BC. Tried to nail us for $290.00 The load came in BOND and had to be inspected at Interport. Receipts, Credit card authorizations the whole 9 yards. Thank god!! We looked further into this. The Customs Broker cleared the load with no hick up's. Crossed no problem (Not in bond) When we approached the Carrier for more info with these extra charges. They kept stalling. We should have gone to the authorities with this fraud and proof we have on hand. But we did not. Carrier lost a lot of business with our company. It was a major learning experience. On a another note Don't just look at your paper work. Make some phone calls!!
Thanks!

I see these (Interport Border Services) on approximately 1 in 1500 inbound shipments (predominantly LTL).

Are you saying that this carrier doctored the invoice to try and bill you or that they mistakenly went to Interport for no reason? From what I recall this 'inspection' is ordered by CBP, 'bonded' freight would be required to go to a bonded facility (or direct to a carrier's dock if post audit).

Please clarify, I do like to try and learn something new every day!

Keep well,
Mike

No the load cleared by the Custom Broker. There had to be some inside walfel making with the Carrier and Interport.
We were giving Receipts and Credit Card Payment (By the carrier) That the load was off-loaded and inspected.
It never was....
Thanks, again!

In my case Interport is aware and familiar with another shipment on this same truck being inspected (and was the same $355), just is not familiar with the consignee and destination information.

Keep well,
Mike
