Scotlynn Commodities

Good, so don't pay Scotlynn then and see how well that works out. No one is endorsing double brokering, but if it has happened, and it is discovered after the fact, you might be (as I noted in my post of three years ago) jumping from the pan into the fire. Don't be stupid.

Very RUDE staff and I wonder WHY all agents are same except 1 or 2. May be its their office culture.

Same experience recently with an unprofessional Scotlynn broker who booked a load, and held the truck as they needed updated COI, our insurance agent sent it and the broker went ghost. Called her a couple times, and she would pick up the phone and cut it. Waste of resources and time especially when freight is already scarce.

Why a freight broker, of any size, would treat their suppliers in this manner astounds me. I suppose it is that “who cares, carriers are a dime a dozen” attitude. Well, no question about it, there are still lots of carriers out there, a few less than a couple of years ago, but now even fewer really good ones. Paying a fair rate and treating your partners with decency and respect goes well beyond covering the one load you’re trying to move today. From time to time in this industry we all need some help and the carriers you have treated well in the past are more likely to offer it than those you have tried to screw over. Whether it is taking a load for a little less than usual, or running a truck a few extra miles, or holding a load for an extra day, these are the types of things that people can do when they are respected, fairly compensated and most importantly,, paid on time.

Why put them as "Additionally Insured'' on to your policy?

Truthfully, in the current market, they are a dime a dozen !!!
In the grander context, this industry, along with many others, is in the midst of a cultural change. The days of "cowboy culture" and "honour among thieves" is long gone. In many, many cases, carriers and shippers are no longer business partners, they are simply tools to be used, worn out, and thrown away. The same is true to various extents in all relationships in this industry.
The reasons are varied as well, but IMHO it boils down to two; personal honour, and ethics.
Young people are short on personal honour, and can you blame them? They look at society in general and there is no path forward for them, on any avenue. So, they take what they can, while they can, for as long as they can, and to hell with whoever gets stepped on.
The immigrant population is short on ethics. They never had a chance. The government let them in, dropped them somewhere, and said "Here you go. Fend for yourself.". No education. No introduction to Canadian culture. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. If you are dropped into that situation what do you revert to? You count on what you know, and all these poor people can count on is what they know from the broken cultures they came from where graft, blackmail, fraud, and violence rule.
Those of us here on this board are lucky. We still enjoy old school values, and are not shy about mentoring others that come here in search of knowledge and a viable path to the future. But, in the grand scheme of things, we are a small number, and eventually the "new" world will run us over too.

I mean its Scotlynn are we all really surprised at this point? more than a broker they are a carrier and above all else a farmer. Not to say that any of those makes them bad, but the combination surely doesn't evoke confidence. We haven't worked with them since 2020 and even then it was on the one off loads. More headaches than anything else..in the great words of Rob "let rott on the dock" and in their case quite literally rott LOL

That would be an incorrect assessment. They are an investment firm, a money machine. Brokering, trucking, and farming are simply the tools they use to make money ... nothing more, nothing less.

heard they hire a thousand workers with a pulse and a degree at the beginning of the year and then fire 998 of them at the end and promote two people to account manager and give them all the work the other 998 got in the last year.

this came from an account manager from Scotlynn

Although I do tend to agree with the thoughts expressed by my colleague Michael Ludwig, I am somewhat reluctant to paint such a gloomy picture. Yes, the habits and customs of new Canadians can be different and certainly the younger generation is faced with perhaps more challenges than we older ones were. However, I have found that many new Canadians are actually anxious to assimilate into the Canadian culture. Send their kids to school, enrol them in hockey, soccer etc.become an active and engaged part of our Tim Hortons drinking society. Sure, there will always be some who look for the “easy money” , the no work, big gain scam, but they are the minority, just as all Italians weren’t members of the Mafia and all Irish immigrants weren’t drunken, horse thieving gamblers (at least that is what my great grandfather told me about my ancestors!). I also believe that there is something universal about ethical behaviour. With very few exceptions, most parents don’t want their kids to grow up to be criminals and in most cases do their very best to prevent it. However ethics and proper behaviour in general have to be learned, you’re not born knowing right from wrong. Children that come from good homes, with a proper education usually can figure it out and in most cases, in spite of todays challenges, can make their way in this new world order. That’s my Pollyanna take on it. It is 11:40 where I am in Mexico, hotter than the surface of the sun and there is an ice cold beer calling my name. Enjoy the day.

What !!! ... there were like 4 Irish immigrants that were teetotallers !!! I kid of course :)
To your point about new Canadians. There is a bigger percentage of the easy-money-minority now than there has ever been, and unfortunately a large part of them end up in this industry.
You are right that most parents don't want their kids to grow up to be criminals, but foreign parents are sending their 18 and 19 year old kids here with no other worldly experience, and no supervision once they get here. Those parents counted on the government's promise to watch over them, and the government failed miserably.
The point that you are recognizing there is a new world order is important.

I'm all for immigration, but we need to stop bringing in angry people with an agenda linked to the old country. Come here for a fresh start, by all means celebrate your culture and heritage, but don't use Canada as a launching pad for hate and violence. Like premier Ford said... get along with everyone or don't come here.
