Rates within the industry fluctuate year to year, now with with this fuel increase, i would like to know what the min and average you would accept on the lanes you run. I am aware that different equipment types change the rates so feel free to write that next to it. hopefully this will give somewhat of a picture for both carriers and brokers as price points.

Impossible. Nice idea, but selling transportation services is not the same as selling oranges. Too many variables. Even the cost involved with operating a truck is different between companies. An acceptable price point for Jim Ls company could be considered absolutely atrocious for Rob's company. It just isn't as simple.as you may want it to be.

i get that for every company its different costs to operate, as there is hundreds of different variables. i bring this up after reading a couple of different posts that are in the same framework for example the on-bc run where one carrier was running it at 6900 and now price has gone significantly higher and they are being quoted 11k now, which for them was too much-- or brokers locking in rates -- loads held hostage after carrier asks for more money etc..

most of the work we run is off of loadlink and the rates being offered that are accepted by one broker as great are said to be way too much with others. ex mtl -beauceville FTL tandem we were offered 575 to move it but we refused. Others will pay hundreds of dollars more. no matter how low the offer is i feel liek there is always a carrier acceptng it for dirt cheap( thats again also depends on the variables) ... post was to get a broad picture, if its not doable ill ask a mod to delete the thread

anw thanks for the reply.

That is the problem right there. You're basing your cost analysis on what is being dictated by others on Loadlink. Just like you have varying costs, the brokers on Loadlink also have varying customers appetites. One may be representing a company who hauls high margin electronics, and one may be shipping scrap recycled plastic.

You will soon learn that only you will have the ability to set your price. Then you will live or die by that price. How that price is in relation to the thousands of other carriers (your competitors) will decide if you're successful or not. It is no different than any other business.

Every carrier's best bet is to find direct customers and limit their exposure to the leftovers found on Loadlink. That is all Loadlink offers - leftovers. The brokers who have business relationships with regular carriers that haul their loads do not post those on LoadLink. Brokers who are on those email lists of companies blasting their freight to hundreds and looking for the lowest bid are the ones who post and that is the reason why the price is all over the place. It's also the reason why all loads booked through Loadlink causes nothing but grief. Appointment screw ups, paperwork issues, overweight, overly tight timelines etc is what you get when the expectation is the lowest cost. A direct customer understands that his price is $X, it fits his budget and is ok with their margin - the pricing is stable.

Trying to nail down an 'average', 'recommended', 'min', 'max' or any other cost structure is like trying to put socks on an octopus. All that went away in the late 80's along with shoulder pads and leg warmers.

Thanks for your input and advice @Jim L & @loaders , the next step was to get start smiling and dialing to obtain our own clients-
We've worked owner operator with large Qc based company.
And I can see how all the leftover is on load link.
