many many years ago was in the US for 10 yrs, I never renewed my ON driver lic so it exipired - when I finally went in to renew it they asked to see govt issued ID other than the lic - had to show my passport ... so really not sure how this happens... a person on a visit visa will not have any form of canadian govt issued ID right?

Because Canada is broken and immigration is rampant and there are no checks and balances in place, Oh that and the fact everyone is terrified of being labelled racist if you say or do anything the East Asians do not like they scream racism and our government lets them away with shit an Old stock Canadian ( our PM's words) would get in shit over. Dis agreeing or calling someone out for BS lies etc is not racism in my books but if you so much as say anything they (JT included) do not like here's your sign you have a label. God I hope a nom con vote gets rid of the idiot in the leaders chair, as I do not think we can handle another year of it.

There is no law against visitors to get a CDL. As for ID, they show their Passport.
It's another loophole in the system where people land in Canada as a visitor, get a CDL, pay $$$ for LMIA, get a closed work permit and start diving solo the next day.
A commercial driver's license should be reserved only for those who meet residency requirements, in my humble opinion. I agree the Federal Government is a mess, however I think licensing falls under Doug Ford's jurisdiction.
