Inside Transport - Going Members Only

This site has been an awesome tool to obtain information. Everything posted still has to be parsed and reviewed for your specific situation and checked and re-checked. Either way, its usually great information to point you in the right direction.

I think it would be best to still allow anyone to view the posts for their own perusal. It is also a great way to get new users to the community. Making all posts only visible to current members is a mistake in my opinion. We need to always get more information and more members to solidify the information that is out there.

What is the reason for this decision?
We have been running this website for over 10 years now, with very little funds or donations, we are thankful for those who contribute. As a free tool we would prefer to have this a members only site and we always welcome new members.

I am still not sold on having to reveal my real name to every member on this site. There are a few that do know my name and business, but that was done by myself for specific situations. If you want to introduce yourself, fine, but I like having the option of remaining anonymous.

You are welcome to stay anonymous, we have never indicated that you should reveal yourself.

Question in regards to "180 days"...
After I "liked" someone post, would my "180 days" clock be reset to 0 days or no?
:p

The problem that I see is that people like me, who are generally reserved about posting online or "trusting" websites, won't have the opportunity to get to know and understand this site. I think it's really a great forum and very worthwhile but I didn't join until I watched it for a while and determined for myself that I wanted to be part of it.

Admin, feel free to correct me if I am wrong ...
Most sites that implement this common type of structure allow anyone the ability to see a limited number of posts in any particular topic. All topics are searchable by all search engines. If there person viewing the limited preview of the topic brought forward by the search engine wishes additional information, to see more content, or to post a reply, they must register with the site and become a member. Admin is saying that prospective new member will be required to reveal their true names in order to register but they will be able to use an alias in the site. Admin is reserving the right to refuse membership to anyone applying. The reasons for refusal will be known to the Admin and the Admin alone.
This is not a bad thing.

Good morning,
I have been "lurking" on here for quite some time and find this website a great tool and very informative although I'm not sure I agree with your decision to limit to a membership only site. Only time will tell if you are right and I do appreciate everything and everyone that posts, although I usually don't because I'm really shy...
I know the quote from the great Groucho Marx says "I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member" but not in this case.
Thank you for all your hard work

We have 2398 registered members and only a few hundred post. Our goal is to have a productive community, All topics are still searchable but you would now need to register to view, all accounts can be self deleted to those who do not wish to say on board.

The site has been a great help to me over the years. I am also sorry to say that it might have saved me a problem or 2 if I had checked here 1st .Can you believe I got stung by Tony G in 2010? Live and learn.

I'm posting here also - just to be within the 180 days.
I don't care for the idea of restricting access though - just my nickel's worth. I love this site the way it is. If I want 'politically correct' information on a carrier or broker or shipper or receiver, I can get that through Google. So there is fighting and whining - you don't have to read those posts if you aren't interested. And seeing the same people - and their opinions only - sort of defeats the purpose of having a site where everything can be aired by anyone.

This site looks great! Finally, more than 1 token Canadian...

Been expediting for 12 years (in a 4 wheeler) and am looking to bring on more business to finance my upgrade to a straight.

I realize most of you drive tractor. Maybe I can figure out how you guys make it the way rates seem right now...
