I have to ask ... Is there any real value in LoadLink?

Given that one load a month pretty much covers the membership fee and then some, I'd say it is good value. Go in with the expectation that you'll need to wade through alot of garbage.. fake postings, phantom brokers and carriers.. double posters.. scant information provided.. go in with low expectations and you may be pleasantly surprised occasionally. Personally I would rather deal with the garbage than have a board overlord.. if I wanted an overlord I would be on someone else's payroll.

Broker….”do you still have your truck in Joplin MO?
Carrier…..” what truck, we don’t have a truck in Joplin”!
Broker…..”you know you are posting a truck on Load Link”
Carrier……”oh ya, we might go there one day and want to know what the rates are like”.

Other side of the coin--

Carrier.. " calling on your load in XXX?"
Broker.. " yes, it's a load of widgets, paying 1000$ and it's ready now"
Carrier.. " perfect I can pick up in 20 minutes, rate sounds great"
Broker.. "okay, we'll call you back"

Broker.. *never calls back*

Title pretty much says it all. Is there any real value in having a LoadLink subscription?
As I had relayed elsewhere in this forum, I cancelled my LoadLink subscription for cyber security reasons. However, I also looked at my real usage of the platform and in the final analysis, there really was not a cost benefit. I realized I paid thousands a year to access 1 or 2 loads annually. Figuring it backwards, I could have run quite a few empty miles for what LoadLink cost me.
I also understand that LoadLink is a good jumping off point for new entrants to the industry, but if those new entrants are on the ball, and pay attention to what's going on, they should have a solid stable of reliable load brokers and carriers in about 6 months or so, and shouldn't need LoadLink, and the subsequent exposure to some of the worst bottom feeders in the industry.
It just seems to me that LoadLink is really just an expensive solution to poor carrier planning.
Your thoughts ???

Thanks Michael, hate to admit how long I have been around. Our process is to use our own preferred carriers first - then use LL when our preferred carriers do not have the capacity or are out of range. I too am having trouble justifying cost as we only use it when we have exhausted our roster of carriers.

Simple math for me ... I figured I can run about 3,000 to 3,500 non-revenue generating miles per year for the cost of LL. My numbers are well under that, so I just let it go ... well, that and their cyber security protocols are atrocious.

We got the call last week from Loadlink over team members working from home. Loadlink has an issue with users accessing the platform from their home office and not the registered office.

We have multiple people working from home in Metro Vancouver, anyone working from home will be considered a separate office and have to pay the base office amount instead of the current additional user fee.

I'm not going to list the actual cost structure but the base amount is over 12 times the additional user fee for us. This is then multiplied by the number of people working from home.

I have no idea how they will handle companies using the hybrid model.

They also offered the Platinum plan as an alternative to the above but have not received a quote on this cost; guessing it is more $$$ and not less

The conversation with Loadlink was for a Broker, assuming Carriers are getting the same calls.

To answer the question of this tread: There is no viable alternative in Canada, that is the value of LoadLink

Just RDC it.
They know about this and apparently are working on a way to stop it, which is BS.

I could be wrong but I believe it is based on the computer IP address. Once you login with a computer the username and password is set to that computer. Found this out when we had to switch computers and when we tried to login it wouldn't allow us, had to call their tech support to switch it. What we've ended up doing was getting laptops to be registered. That way if we ever needed to WFH the laptop can be taken home and access it remotely.

We connect to remote desktop and run our enterprise system, email and web browsing through it including loadlink, in theory the IP should always be the same regardless of your physical location.

I did not take the call from Loadlink so I'm not sure if they knew based on IP or were just fishing and the person who talked to them gave away too much.

You would want to check this out to be sure, but I think their agreement only limits you to one machine per license seat. I do not believe it says anything about how many people are using that licensed machine, nor does it specify how those people connect to that licensed machine. Frankly, although my knowledge is somewhat limited, I don't see how they could monitor, or enforce it. The only way would be for them to have access to your internal IP addressing and no one in their right cyber security mind is going to give away access to that information. That would be tantamount to cyber self-unaliving.
There are plenty of robust load boards in the marketplace now that are either free or very inexpensive, and could easily take LL's place if they get too greedy which, in my opinion, they already have. Higher prices for the same or less service, and their cyber security sucks monkey balls.
To facilitate a wholesale changeover, load brokers simply have to start using another load board, and stop posting on LoadLink. Carriers will follow. LoadLink will die.
So, Load Brokers ... no pressure or anything, but it's all up to you !!! ... LOL
