Members,

First Carriers is no longer answering the phone and are not at either of their locations listed on their confirmations/credit application. Between the 3 companies - they all used each other as credit references. Payment was received from one account - paying an invoice for another. Get on the shipper and reroute your invoices.

Have you collected from VTL already? it took us 127days to collect $11,800. PM if you need a hand. Thanks

Larry Burns owns VTL in Dorval, PQ.
I am pretty sure the one in question here is Ventureline Transport, am I in error here?

First Carriers owes me money too. Anyone know how to get a hold of these people? So tired of sh*tty companies burning hard working people.

True North Trucking is tied into this group too. My buddy told me. Phone number is 905-586-3710. Which just happens to be the same phone number for First Carriers. Giving you guys a heads up.

Quite the "circle" they've got going here.

If anyone is still owed monies from First Carriers - please send me a PM.

freightfwd - you as well. Thanks for the post and heads up.

Same here - if there is a carrier owed money from Continental, please touch base. They hauled 2 shipments for us and I would like to know if they were double brokered as we caught them just recently double brokering a third shipment.

Does anyone recognize this trailer? Please PM me if so. Either the name on the tractor or the company name on the trailer.
Cheers,

We are holding money on a Load they took from our company . we asked them for us to pay the invoice we needed to know Under which name they work on Link logistics and we needed proof that the broker they used was paid . after 1 week still have not received any information. except today a e-mail with documents from Oshawa court house

Maybe you should pay your bills CARGO MCJM. I had problems getting paid from you also.

What is a broker's responsibility when a carrier such as First Carriers, double brokers a load? Should the broker pay the actual carrier who did the load?

It depends on wether the broker is in violation of its contract with its carrier. Make sure all parties give you a release before you make a payment.

Is it illegal for a carrier to double broker a load without consent of the broker and without a broker license and surety bond?

Not in Ontario. I think USA it might be illegal. Many carriers we deal with for years end up at some point, brokering, interlining, double brokering freight. As long as the end carrier is paid there is no problem. You should obtain a release from all parties to protect yourself.

It is important for you to obtain a release from all parties as if not, the shipper and receivers might have to pay twice.

If a carrier takes a shipment from a broker and commits to handling the shipment on their fleet, then gives it to another party (the entire move, not just a portion), they are not honouring their contracted commitment to handle the shipment. I'd say it's at minimum breach of contract. Most brokers these days will have a term and condition that protects the owner of the goods from being liable (and the original broker too) to a party that never handled their freight on their equipment.

Keep well,
Mike
