This letter is in regards to the business practices of the carrier F.T.C. Limited MC#381694, DOT#870184 (also affiliated with C.J. Thomas Logistics Inc). I hope for this letter to serve as a warning, and keep other brokers from having to deal with such unscrupulous practices. The carrier picked up in South Carolina and once the carrier made it in to Canada with this load, a full 2 days after pickup they decided to demand payment in full before they would deliver and set a deadline of approximately 3 hours for payment, upon which if payment was not received they threatened to warehouse my product plus an addition of $400/day in detention. Detention on a load that is not even at the receiver, defies the definition of the term detention. As we tried to work with them, we even went so far as to offer half payment upon arrival at the receiver and half payment upon the fax of signed POD. Even this was not enough. Even after paying them in full they delivered approximately 8 hours late (remind you that they were wanting to bill for detention as well). As far as trying to track the load, repeatedly I was lied to by their dispatchers as well as their Operations Manager Ken Parker. Their business model has become very clear over dealing with this issue over the past few days, that their scheme is to get the load into Canada and hold it hostage while trying to extort you for additional non-warranted fees and payment up front as opposed to the net 30 terms they agreed to when taking the load. This company is as shady as they come, so it is my intention to inform all brokers that it is in their best interest to avoid them and their schemes.
