I feel like name calling is beneath you.
Having worked at this specific firm for 15 years I can tell you that some clients understand the dynamics of transportation and offer fair rates which allows a broker to offer fair rates - often this is regular, ongoing freight on the same lanes and it should represent the bulk of a brokers business in order to be set up for success. This brokers success can be measured by it's longevity with the same ownership.
Sometimes, there's transactional clients, race to the bottom clients that a broker or carrier can chose to work with, or not. I can tell you often times rates being offered are a reflection of customer expectations. As many here have said, a client wants the load to move for the lowest rate they paid over the last 10 years. It's up to the broker to go to market and see if they can sell the freight for the rate the customer is asking. If not, they have to explain to the client that their expectations are unrealistic.
In the end, when freight is scarce, rates go down, when freight is abundant rates go up.
Everything I've said above is common sense to anyone who's spent some time working in transport.
Although I'm not there anymore, when I was, we sure cared about our customers, sure cared about building strong, long lasting relationships with our carrier partners. I've met most of the carrier membership here in person or on the phone. I have friendships that have outlasted my career in transport. Even though some of my former colleagues are not there anymore, I expect that the culture and ethics that have been rooted in the company stand.
Don't judge a broker because of one or a few shipments they are working on could be a transactional customer. I can tell you it doesn't feel good trying to book freight for under market rates. It's embarrassing sometimes. No one wants to insult you with a number, it usually comes from the beneficial owner of the goods.
Anyway, low rates are bad for the industry from all angles, here's hoping our governments get their head out of their ass and boost our economies rather than continuing to destroy them. Sadly, I feel like there's only one unlikely solution. We all know what that is.
Happy Friday, keep being awesome!!
