Dang.. even with our years of buying power with various rail consolidators, its still a cheap rate, Our cost is close to $600. @~2560 cube that is cheap rate, product better be stackable for it to even come close to making sense for a rail guy. Definitely not moving over road with a tier 1 carrier for that kind of rate.

Maybe one of the following :)

Direct Right, FastFrate, Bison to name a few -- all can be around the $600 mark for stackable, FCFS, Dock to Dock if you've got the buying power. Also the rate could also reflect an X-DOCK rate, where its dropped off at the consolidators GTA dock, like we do at times with various carriers to avoid PU costs, as our fleet can do the first mile, cheaper than some carriers charge us for the first mile.

always a few ways to skin a rabbit.

Just paid 1700 on 6 skids coming to Ontario from BC. I guess the difference is we as a carrier know costs and some brokerages base everything on being the cheapest prick in the pile. Hope they get hung with it at that rate it deserves to sit until it is of no use to anyone.

Absolutely... brokers don't consider city pickup/delivery cost or many other factors. For them, all what matters is cheapest carrier.

SOME brokers. Let's get that straight right out of the gate. "All what matters" in my world is a hell of a lot more than using the cheapest carrier.
At this moment, i would say many or most of the brokers. And with my statement to using cheap carriers, i will standby to it as i have brokers telling me everyday "I have quotes for way less from other carriers"...
I had a broker (Well known broker) reached out to me about 3 weeks ago saying his FTL got stolen. And i was also one of the carrier who quoted him genuine price for the same load but he wished to go with cheaper one and got his freight stolen.
Guess what, he still looks for cheap carriers and if anyone tells me customer isn't paying much is a complete BS.
We have many many direct customers/shippers and none of the customers have asked us to reduce price to rock bottom. Yes, they ask for some discount here and there.

There's no correlation between freight rates and the likelihood of freight getting stolen.. at least nothing definitive that I've seen. I've had loads stolen, and both times the rates were above average to the carrier. In a way carriers under cheap freight want to get it off their trucks as fast as possible, leaving less time for thieves to intercept the load. Shippers are asking for "more aggressive" pricing, and most do it in a 'round about way..i.e. they utilise bidding platforms to quickly get the lowest price they can from their matrix of vendors. That technology wasn't around until relatively recently and has made it much easier for shippers to shop everything out to the lowest bidder. Do I blame the shippers? Not really.. like everyone else they want the best bang for the buck.. and just like you and I when we buy a shirt at Walmart, we're not concerned about how fair the price is for the ultimate producer of the product or service.

I stand by my statement that it is some brokers. It sounds like this guy got what he deserved. If he is still looking for cheap rates it won't be long before his customer figures out he's a tool and kicks him to the curb. Karma will get him in the end.

If a broker has received a number of quotes that are less money than what you quoted, it sounds to me like it is you that is out of touch, not the broker . I am not now, nor would I ever defend cut rate, low ball brokers, but in todays more aggressive marketplace, many carriers are quoting rates for some lanes at much lower prices than a year ago. As well, it is not the brokers responsibility to “consider pick up/delivery costs”, that is your job and to quote your services accordingly. Remember, it is only a crummy, low, stupid rate until a carrier accepts it, then it becomes the market rate for that lane on that day.
