Approximately 850 miles loaded.. Havelock is about 120 miles away from Toronto so about 970 miles for the truck.

Load of paint.. 40,000 pounds

pays $950
 
That sounds very familar to a load that TQL tries to move every week and they pay $1200 ( or around that ) and even that is way to cheap
 
1.02 per mile, that's a good way to go out of business sad thing is some dead beat will move it for that rate.

to be honest we stopped working on it, we just marked as too cheap and deleted it from our load list & link postings.

freight to NC has been getting cheaper & cheaper, we used to book these types of lanes to NC, SC, & GA every week, now it's died to buck a mile freight (or less).
 
They both double (oops co-broker when GRoch does it double brokering when anyone else does) broker for the same cheapo!! What would make anyone even think to offer such a lane. If one of my customers even had the gall to offer me a rate such as that I would inform them of the costs involved in trucking and try to educate them. I guess when you have no idea who the customer is that option is not available to you. You should be ashamed to even offer that rate and coming from the President of the NTBA's own company..
 
If we all are very honest, double brokering is not the problem. The biggest problem that we can see is that there are too many people in the business that have absolutely no idea how much it costs to run a truck. They go in and just undercut to get the customer. The cost of running a truck does not end at the fuel tank. When I'm negotiating a price and mention toll costs, I very often get 'what toll???'. then there's the fuel taxes in each state. IRP doesn't mean Irrisistably Free Petrol :rolleyes:
 
I'm sorry...IMO G Rock et al is not the problem.
Carriers that take the freight are the problem. How can you blame a customer for wanting spot freight done as cheaply as he can get it...so long as service doesn't matter?
We've all taken freight cheaper than we wanted to...trucks gotta leave and you have room left, so you take it. With the aforementioned load of paint, if there is a guy that thinks that will work for him, why is it G Roch's problem? Just expect the quality of service that corresponds to the quality of rate.
We are in a free market with too much capacity still. It drives me nuts how cheap some of this junk is too, but hey, if they get it moved, who's the fool?
I don't know G Roch, and I don't think I've done any work with them, but if their customer is happy using a cut rate carrier and getting iffy service, rock on...
My giggles come when a broker asks for a rate and you give it, but they have rates half of mine. Oddly enough, the cheap rate trucker has no availability, but they think you will do it for his rate.
 
That's where we stand on that one Dave, the customer has a rate he is paying already and getting it done for. Who are we to tell him he is wrong and that carrier is giving him shit service?
We were offered a price, we gave it a shot, it was too cheap, we stopped. No harm done.
This has nothing to do with knowing how to run trucks or working with other brokers, this is plain and simple business concept; supply & demand, too many trucks drive prices DOWN too many loads drives prices UP.
Anyone who say they ALWAYS run for the price they require is just blowing smoke.

Dave in London, what company are you with, we could probably move freight together! (the freight that fits the pricing obviously)

as for comments trying to knock down our rep, those negative comments usually drive YOUR rep down...

p.s who is the President of the NTBA? and what company?
