Nice email made me lol as seems everytime I call them now we cannot haul the load because you do not do enough work for us to haul it. Really but during the crazy times i had my own broker that would do everything she could to get me under CH loads. Now i do not do enough to get a load. KMA. This is all because they are getting their ass handed too them on stock market and in the press as being left behind in the tech side and losing freight. Too bad did a lot of work over the years for them been probably over a year since we have done anything.

same here, we did around 4 to 5 loads every month, until they got greedy and flat out told me they have other carriers beating our pricing. Now seeing this, one wonders where those other carriers went? And we got hit with the same thing about how we "haven't done enough work with them to book any loads"...make it make sense CHR. They were the most tolerable outta the big 3 (CHR, TQL, JBHUNT) and it looks like they'll be the first to go down if this keeps up.

Haven't done a load for CHEAP AND HEAVY ROBBERS in years. Not worth the aggrevation.

my only issue with these guys is that they use to win accounts and then move freight to their friends who run them kickbacks.

Who doesn't love a good bribe? LOL its honestly more common than you think, weve had brokers from many different firms ask for kickbacks in return for first dibs on a lane.

I did COTY & Cleveland Cliffs for a while until my CHR rep gave them both to his 'partnered' carrier.

CHR rep owns 4 houses in Toronto right now - he's only 28!
(read about it)

Had great service KPI's.
Had great competitive rates.
Still have integrity.

Waiting on my 1950's colleagues to tell me what it's all about.

Mustafa is great, i believe he is at mactrans now. Many reps are taking 50-100 per load, to supplement their income, to a carrier its not a big deal as long as they are securing the freight at a liveable rate but something just doesn't sit right with me on that whole concept. But hey its happens in the government too so it cant be thaaaaat bad.

yep greasing the palms as they call it, and frankly it keeps you in with a shipper longer, since there's someone on the other side of the fence that's "invested" in your success. Its inevitable since our industry has become a "cheap commodity".

I like to treat our shippers, it helps cultivate the relationship but flat out throwing brown bills at them is unethical and also against most of their companies policies you risk their job and your contract if their employer finds out

I agree, it hasn't happened to us, we are not in those circles and our contacts at our customers are the owners themselves, we work with the little guys lol. However, I know some big carriers that employ this tactic and secure contracts. A very large waste management and construction company in the GTA has a couple of lowboy haulers giving kick backs to their Ops ppl, and its the worst kept secret.

I knew a sales guy years ago..known as “the weedman” who supplied his shippers and receivers with weed, hash, coke and other stuff. He also dabbled in prostitution and pimping until the law finally caught up with him. It’s all about building relationships..

sounds like a plot for a good movie lol Funny as I was talking about this on here, one of my drivers was told if he want to jump the line at the receiver for quick offload it'll be $40 bucks......cant make this up.

By offering or paying bribes, financial incentives, kickbacks, whatever you want to call it, you are as ”dirty” as the person receiving them, especially in the eyes of upper management if it becomes known. If the person is asking you for something, what’s to say he won’t move the business to someone willing to pay more. No thanks……happened to me once and never again. It maybe old fashioned but proving good service at a fair price is the way to sell your business.

Someone hustles and saves so you accuse them of kickbacks?
Do you have proof of this? Quite slanderous if you do not.

8 months no service failure and then suddenly you lose the account right before produce season?
same 3party carrier takes over both accounts on the trailer pools in ON & OH? who knows?

Imagine this scenario.. you're a shipper at a midsized plant in the GTA. You control a fair amount of freight and you have people calling you every day trying to "build a relationship". Now further imagine that you have a big mortgage.. a car payment.. kids in school, and things are pretty tight even though you're getting a good paycheque. A carrier/broker sales rep comes in and tells you wink wink.. "get me into your plant with a few loads a week and I'll split my commission with you". You figure why not.. this guy is likely as good as the the guy I'm currently using.. I could bump my pay by a few hundred a week at least.

This is so ridonk-a-donk. TD Bank in the US is getting fined billions because a front line worker took a $200 bribe to look the other way and help launder money. This culture of graft has gone too far.

We have on occasion, asked a shipper/receiver to stay late to help a driver out that was running behind in exchange for a case of beer or a pizza. I always viewed this as being grateful for a favor and I meant it. As a broker, I am out of a job without drivers and carriers who are out there doing the heavy lifting (and want to continue to work with me :)) and I feel a sense of duty to keep them happy.

Sticking to CHR this has been my experience with them as well. like I mentioned before we had done really well with no issues, only to have loads yanked on us out of the blue for the "cheaper" option, and I know this since the shipper called us looking for our truck when CHR booked another carrier on it. Nothing could be done about it since upper management at the shipper had a service contract with CHR. so much for "great service" and "building relationships" LOL Maybe once it did matter, but these days its very rare to see anyone really care about it....till the cheaper options F's up.

Yes, I've had that happen with CHR trailer pool accounts as well - a clearly manufactured excuse used as the documented data clearly disproved the logic but years of service thrown out the window with no discussion, no explanation. I know from my other contacts in the industry that I'm not the only carrier it happens to with them. Proof positive of the fact that its not about the carrier at all in their world - but then again, it never was.
