Breach of load sheet

For sure MikeJr. Whenever a freight held hostage situation arises, there could be any number of nefarious reasons why. When you have a gun pointed at your head, don't try to be Bruce Willis, just ask them what they want and pay them. Keep your customer happy and their freight intact, and use this experience as a lesson learned for next time. Oh, and of course after it's over, open the front door of the office and scream your lungs out!

He has asked for a T Chek on delivery. I have never used them but inquiring now. Thanks again everyone.

I've had this happen. Offered COD and they delivered within 15 min of me hanging up - works every time when who you're dealing with is just motivated by money

Who did you trust to give the driver the COD? I didn't want to involve the receiver or my client as kind embarrassing.

I am having an issue with a carrier. He agreed to be paid at 30 days. Now that he has picked up my clients shipment, he is demanding payment now, before he delivers.

Does anyone have any suggestions and is this legal?

I have not told my customer yet and i do not want to lose him as a customer.

Pay them and let us all know who the loadnapper is.............this is a powerful site that has put carriers and brokers out of business......pay first! Do everything the idiot asks then release his name to the thousand people on this site that purchase power so we can all put them on our DNU list.

Just a suggestion for next time Henry. Have a carrier package put together that you can provide to any potential new supplier. In addition to your firms authorities and insurance, include references of other companies that offer you credit. Find out from your management if your firm has a D&B number, or any other credit reporting experience. Whenever dealing with a new supplier, exchange this information for theirs. Don’t leave it up to them to ask for it, be proactive and professional and send it to them anyways.

Sorry it's not embarrassing. All you are doing is making sure you are taking care of your client.
Can't wait to hear this douche bags name. Good luck mate.

That's right MikeJr. We call that, "I have kidnapped your freight and I am holding it hostage". Henry, if you don't pay up, they will start sending you bits of the shipment. Not pleasant! Sorry, it isn't a funny situation to be in. Again, the quickest way to resolve this is pay the guy and move on. Keeping your customer happy is the important thing here.
By doing what you suggest could lead to more of the same if word gets out to other carriers though couldnt it? I guess it would depend on if you want your customer relationship to last longer than one shipment?

Not at all. A freight held hostage situation is also the fault of the freight owner, shipper or broker. They are the ones who allowed the shipment to be entrusted to the kidnappers in the first place. Not to say that following even the most robust due diligence will prevent this type of thing, you will find that it is the exception. If you get into one of these "pickles" the best course of action is to pay up and rescue your customers freight.

Thanks everyone for your help. Ive delayed the delivery till Tuesday as it so happens i have one of my own drivers in the same city Tuesday. He will meet their driver and pay them....Then i will post this companies name for sure. Have a great weekend!

We are always happy to quick pay for freight upon receiving a PoD but if we get a freight held threat after they agree to 30 days, (our norm) the pay will be with 5% for quick pay instead of our usual 3%

This fellow wanted payment before delivery, hence the issue. My credit is clean. I don't have a D and B set up, that's all.

Lots of good posts here. Best course of action was noted. Pay now...advise who the company is and never bother with them again. Credit check on your company Henry should have been done prior to the freight moving. At the very least if this was a full load for $5000, you should have been given a "heads up" that a credit report was being done and if any issue you'd need to work something out - plausible solution being payment for half prior to delivery or some other agreement. This is a bad scenario - best to just get yourself out of it sooner...rather than later. You don't want this carrier calling your customer directly either while you are "contemplating" how to handle it. You've got alot of good advice here....good luck with it.

This shipment was slotted for delivery today, correct?
Was the name on the side of the truck the same as the carrier you contracted?
Will you now tell us who held your freight hostage?

Keep well,
Mike

I will update his name today. He has already threatened my owner as I stupidly told him I am going to post about him (I was pissed with this guy). The delivery was delayed as I couldn't get my driver to the delivery location until today. My driver is giving their driver a bank draft at the delivery.
