In July we picked up a load for one of the larger brokers.
9:00pm scheduled pick up time, "but you can go in as early as 7:00pm, they will load you sooner"
My truck arrives at 7:00pm, not expecting to be loaded right away, but at least we are early to give us a shot of getting out of there and on our way.
No other trucks were there at the time. I had another truck pick up earlier in the day, 2 hours to load, pretty standard.
They finally finished loading at 1:45am! Through security and on the way at 2:00am!
The next morning I call the broker and advise him of such. I don't expect to be paid for the time between 7:00pm and our appoinment time of 9:00pm, we showed up earlier than scheduled, so we eat whatever time up until the appointment time.
But to be told "this customer doesn't pay waiting time" after taking 7 bloody hours to load the trailer, is just plain ridiculous. I still can't understand why 2 hours to load and unload is standard in our industry, but that's another story. Why on earth should I eat the costs for having my driver sit for 7 hours?
I charged them anyway, told them they can choose to short pay, but I will send them to collections for the balance. I also refused any future loads from this broker and have blocked them on the link.
By the way, this was not Ayr Motor Express just to be clear.
