Truck Not Used

My point exactly. I say run the miles....you get paid for your time and trouble. You decide to run the miles without my knowledge or consent....$250.00 max.

In that case no.. standard TONU would apply. But most carriers/drivers would let the broker know they were deadheading in, if only in the form of "hey man, can you help me out with my deadhead?" I would be surprised if people deadheading that far without the broker's knowledge is a common occurrence. But really... in that case it would be no more than the standard tonu..cut and dry.. because the carrier clearly chose to take on that risk himself.

Yes, yes,. yes...thank you. I tell the carrier to run empty deadhead miles, for sure he'll be compensated fairly in the event the load cancels. The carrier takes it upon himself, makes his own decision, whatever you want to call it, and runs a stupid amount of empty miles, sorry, it was your call, here is a standard TONU. Hey, if the shipper is cooperative, maybe we can sweeten things, but no guarantee.

Unfortunately, cancelled loads cannot always be attributed to either “inept brokers” or “careless shippers”. They are a fact of life in this business and everyone has a different way of dealing with them. In most cases, when I ask a carrier if he is interested in one of my loads, a discussion regarding the present location of his equipment doesn’t take place. The rate I am offering, the type of load, shippers hours, etc, etc seems to occupy the bulk of the discussion. Unlike Michaels example, very rarely will we “ask a carrier to move his truck”,as the owner of that asset, we leave that decision up to him. If a desperate carrier, after having a truck sitting in Florida for three days, decides to take my load out of TN, back to Toronto, and that load cancels as he pulls into the shippers yard, I am sorry and I will attempt to get you as much compensation as I can. However, it was his decision, not mine nor my customer to travel that far.
The question is , how much begging did you do to get the truck when you couldn't find anyone else ? And don't tell me you never have to convince a Carrier to do a load for you when there are way more loads than trucks - and yes this will happen again soon. This $50 - $250 bullshit is just that when the Carrier gets screwed over through no fault of his own

So, in other words in this example, be thankful the carrier was only 500 miles away, as opposed to 1000 miles away, and write the cheque? Hopefully the now pissed off carrier doesn’t decide to inflate his empty mile cost to some unreasonable amount. People sometimes do funny things when life throws them a curve ball.
We weren't pissed off , that's why we deal with Ludwig. We would do the same thing for him

As I have said now many times, if I "beg" the carrier to run empty miles for my load and then it gets cancelled....tell me what you need and we will make it right. If you take my load with no indication from you that your truck is 100's of miles away and therefore I have no clue that you were not just around the corner, then TONU $250.00. Last time I checked a dictionary, the definition of a "deal" actually has to have 2 agreeing parties. So unless your empty miles are discussed and made part of the "deal", don't come looking for restitution after the fact. I mean, what else are you going to spring on me after the load gets cancelled? "Oh didn't I tell you, this is a team"?

I have a 2 year old to feed. I can afford a few pints right now. When he's a teenager and eats 6 meals a day I'm not sure I'll have the same answer. Mind you, I'll just drop him off at Mandarin in the morning and pick him up in the evening.

:)

It gets easier as they get older. My son will turn 18 on January 1. Great kid.. alot smarter than me.. but nice enough to not flaunt it in my face.
