J. Gold Trucklines Inc.

I have worked with them once this past week. they moved a load from Morristown TN to our warehouse in Pickering ON. they missed delivery the first day after providing updates that the driver would be there by 3pm. I had my guys wait for them but they never showed. Goldie assured me that the driver would be there first thing in the AM the next day. 9am I called to check and was told that the driver wasnt there but Goldie would drive the truck in himself to get it there quickly, eta was 1hr. then I got an update that he was 20 mins away.... 3 hours later the truck arrived and it wasnt even Goldie driving. first and last load I give to J Gold. in short, they picked up on time but delivered 31hrs late while providing false updates the entire time.

Got a shipment from guy named Goldee who said ''Buddy'' after every word he spoke.

2 picks in the GTA goin to his dock.

Tells me at the time of booking that the shipper is waiting on the driver and is urgently trying get the freight out. My driver checks in 10 minutes after giving the verbal on the pickup to find out the shipment wont be ready until 2 hours later. When calling back to see what the deal was, I got nada but voicemail. Then a shy young lady answers with the ever so famous in the most soft, low monotone saying ''hello?... I thought I misdialed and called the worlds most quietest Indian resteraunt and I was the first call ever. When pulling my driver out and sending an email, I get a call back instantly saying the shipper said you left buddy!!!

Avoid at all costs. Super sketchy. Buddy.

Pnp courier plz don’t use them. I been working in this industries for 20 years but haven’t seen a carrier like this. First he begged for my freight and then after getting the rate confirmation whole scenario changes. He went to shipper waited 30 some minutes and then left for his own pick up without even notifying me. There is waiting involved in trucking industry and there is a way to handle that but calling and cancelling the load plus use of bad language it’s unacceptable. Avoid these kind of carriers and save ur time and freight.

Yes I agree use of bad language is unacceptable. Lol. And when did I leave for my own pickup? My driver is not going to wait 2 hours to get loaded with something that was promised to be ready. I will be posting all recordings on this site. You are an enterntaining little guy. Buddy

Thank you

Guys,

Take this discussion to the phone or private msg.

Things happen in transportation, yes. Let's try and treat each other like the professionals we hold ourselves to be. Treat others as you wish to be treated.

Also, happy Friday!
Mike

So. I've got a beef with Goldie and Inder at J Gold. We tendered a shipment to them and boy was it a doozie. We did a load a year ago and all went well, so we gave them another one last week. Here's the coles notes, it was a full load from ON to ME:

Missed the pickup apt for 11:00AM and shipper waited until after hours to load the truck.
Missed the delivery for next day in ME.
Missed the delivery for 2nd day.
On day 3 missed the delivery apt and made the receiver unload after hours. Receiver told me he was doing it because he likes working with my employer not to do the driver any favours.

I'd like members here's advice on how hard I drop the hammer. My T&C, which I hate referring to, but in situations like this I need something to go on, say that for TL service I can deduct $150 per missed pickup or delivery apt (or day), which is -$600. I plan on having a pizza lunch sent to the receiver tomorrow, will offer the customer a discount on the load for crap service and hold a portion for my employer because of all the calls and emails that my CSR and I did on this load. Is this too severe or not severe enough?

I'll mention I PMed Goldiesidh while this was happening with no reply. Also he told me at 8:30 PM on day 2 the driver was at the border crossing and the truck actually crossed 13 hours later. Even called me Buddy.

Looking forward to opinions,
Mike

Crappy service is worth a crappy rate any day of the week. However, and believe me I hate to do it, but shouldn't the carrier only be held responsible for expenses incurred by either you or your customer? In legal terms, they are liable for actual damages, but are they liable for "punitive" damages, you know, a penalty for being stupid arseholes? In spite of how much we would all like to stick it to them for being complete screw ups and unworthy of even calling themselves a trucking company, the load did get delivered, albeit late and caused considerable aggravation and inconvenience. If your T&C spells out the penalties for late p/u or delivery, by all means apply it fully and add on the cost of the pizza. The fact that you are calling them out on Inside Transport will probably cost them more money than your penalties in the long run. I for one, will place them prominently on our DNU list.

That's pretty much our policy Loaders...we pay the invoice in full, move on, and NEVER give them another shipment. If we can't trust you we don't use you...the end.

The T & C's do lay it out in detail so I could just apply them, yes.
I could determine how much exactly the shipper is owed due to the over time, how much the consignee is owed due to over time, I could check the additional to a usual order time spent on the phone and how many emails more this shipment took from our CSR people and myself. There was some time spent for the sales staff in communicaiton with the customer, and the customer with their customer. I spent some time on the phone and via email with the customs broker tracing the clearance. I had a meeting with the VP of sales and also this order came up briefly in a senior management meeting. I'd say it probaly all adds up to approximately the $600. :)

Thanks all for the feedback, in the end good carriers need to be properly compensated for their high level of service, sometimes issues happen that we all work together to get throughwith increased communication and no penalty, but the people that think they can take 5 days to haul a TL 500 miles, spewing BS stories in my ear while calling me Buddy won't see another stick of business from me.

Keep well and thanks again for your guys perspective,
Mike

think you have undervalued your wasted time

My 2 cents, we ask for something after issues like this that are outside of normal breakdowns so we can try to appease our client. If we get the typical "but we delivered it" then they get DNU and we pay them full, if not they are on a very short leash and I can only remember two of those in my 9 years here.

Shakey, I absolutely have undervalued the wasted time, however should the carrier decide to pursue collecitons or legal action, and I doubt anyone would over this amount, I have only deducted what appears on the T&C, not a penny more. They have no case.

Lowmiler88 - and that o/o will leave (especially if they are not accountable for the delay) and find a reputable employer leaving J Gold with one less driver and hopefully a good carrier with a good driver! :)

Keep well,
Mike

T&C's in this context should also include Payment Terms, no? (If we are using terms against the carrier within it); The contract should layout the terms for both sides of the parties. Yes you got screwed, but just don't use the carrier going forward (as some have said already here, the Inside Transport community is on the ball with these types of players and that will be punitive to the carrier), will be less of a mess if they do come after you. Have you ever been able to use the T & C agreement as leverage? I just think it might cause more harm than good for you to short pay in this case down the road...: If we don't support this type of service (& communication level in this case), then these sub-par carriers don't have loads to stay in business and continue this trend. Second chances are for honorable, accountable people, and in some cases this industry has lost sight of that. Pick your battles, and even more importantly pick your enemies!

Millennial,
We have had success the once or twice a year we ever have to refer to the T&C. About once every couple of years we encounter somoene who has decided to rebroker our freight. We notify them that they are in breach of the T&C and that we are paying the transporting carrier directly. Funny, they never really push back at all when they are caught and the carrier is happy to hear from us because they know they will be paid.

With regards to penalties for late delivery, for regular LTL and TL's where there are honest delays you have to look the other way providing there is strong communication. It's when someone picks up your freight and then decides to take and extraordinary amount of time to deliver and also doesn't answer your calls or email except when you call from another number and then offers updates like 'the truck is en route, will be there shortly' then delivers days later. You're right, those companies need to go on the DNU, but why should they be entitled to full compensation if they did not provide the service contracted (deliberate and willful delay without regard for shipper, consignee or my time)?

Keep well,
Mike

I made the mistake of brokering a load to them on my trailer for del on Nov 22, they still haven't returned my trailer and don't return calls or emails.
Everyone, stay very far away from these guys...

They have stolen your trailer? I'd swing by on my way home to check their yard but the address I have on file is a house.
Do you have a trailer yard address for them?

Sorry to hear about your issue,
Mike
