Crappy service is worth a crappy rate any day of the week. However, and believe me I hate to do it, but shouldn't the carrier only be held responsible for expenses incurred by either you or your customer? In legal terms, they are liable for actual damages, but are they liable for "punitive" damages, you know, a penalty for being stupid arseholes? In spite of how much we would all like to stick it to them for being complete screw ups and unworthy of even calling themselves a trucking company, the load did get delivered, albeit late and caused considerable aggravation and inconvenience. If your T&C spells out the penalties for late p/u or delivery, by all means apply it fully and add on the cost of the pizza. The fact that you are calling them out on Inside Transport will probably cost them more money than your penalties in the long run. I for one, will place them prominently on our DNU list.
