G Roch, we want your opinions & how to change them!

Define fair/unfair.. If I offer you a low rate and you accept.. am I being unfair? If my rate is too low then negotiate or refuse my offer. That's business. General Electric, GM, and Ford et al.. all offer "competitive" prices yet we don't call them out for being unfair. Unfair (to me) means that I offered you Y dollars and then paid you X dollars all said and done.. where X is less than Y. Is that what we're talking about here? Specifically what unfair tactics are we talking about here?

I don't personally want to get involved in all the back and forth...lol. But I do agree with Rob that we are definitely working with the brokers that have always had our backs and treated us fairly. I could post a truck on loadlink and milk that broker for a very high rate right now for a one-time load that we likely won't see again anytime soon. But we are sticking to the brokers that have always supported us by paying fair rates, getting the pick and delivery details fine-tuned so we don't sit around waiting, get us customs docs...the list goes on. And when the market settles down we know they will still be there for us and we will be there working hard for them. I can't see us wanting to take on any new lanes right now because the ones we have been servicing for years are just too appealing to drop.
Not too many loyal carriers out there anymore, good for you for not being one of the money hungry carriers looking for the highest 1 off rate

I think I can answer your question Freightbroker. A broker, you, me, whoever, has a lane that is serviced regularly by one of our carriers. We have negotiated a rate that the carrier is happy with. Maybe he has an outbound that takes him just around the corner....whatever, he is satisfied and thinks it is a fair rate. One day, our shipper throws a couple of extra loads at us, or our regular guy just can't make it that day, so we post it on Link. Another carrier sees the posting, has an idea in his head as to what he needs and call us. We offer him the same rate we have been paying our regular guy............"what??????Are you crazy???? That is a terrible rate....you are so unfair!!!! CLICK! You are right, maybe if that carrier had said, hmmm, a bit light for me, can you do any better, the load would have moved and everyone is happy. Fair vs unfair......all in the eye of the beholder.

Sometimes one can't win.. Just got dumped on by a carrier for offering $2500.00CAN on a WI to Brampton. Contacted my customer to see if they could do $3000.00 . They said they can do no more than $2000.00CAN. Only in this biz can one be a cheapass and a gouging high priced dick all in the span of about 2 minutes.. Sigh.. I'm glad its Friday.

Had a truck today in Chicago empty at 4 pm Friday . Posted on load link and G rock called . We said sorry it’s covered . But we needed a load . Could not find a load this late so Driver is coming home empty . No thanks , drove for free for them to many times . Why stop now ?

@generalkonrad how exactly is it driving for free? This is exactly what I'm, saying, if you need a rate just tell us and we'll be glad to take it to the customer.
@Freight Broker you hit the nail right on the head there too, we've been moving freight for similar prices with similar carriers, but obviously in the last few months these carriers are gone, and now the rates we were offering out didn't make sense anymore.
The adjustment period is harder but we want everyone out there to know that we can always ask for more money from customer, lately they've been accepting the rate increases whereas before they would just go to the next guy in line.

Talking about loyalty.... I'm loyal to ALL people/brokers that respected my business and service before Dec 2017. If you REALLY stragallining now, carriers treating "YOU" the same way you treat them before. And you deserved it.

By the way, now even if I'm offered $20/per mile, I'm going to refuse the load from this kind brokers.

@ZoCNX being around for 40 years we've seen a lot of people either go under or change lanes they service, etc, so loyalty only goes so far at some point, I'm not saying I won't honor deals I have with people though. What matters most is being able to do business with anyone and treat people with respect and come to mutual agreements that make sense for both parties involved.

@ShawnR ...Don't take it personally. . . what I'm saying is ...
it's NOT just how to come to the agreement, it's more about what happens after agreement is accepted.

To understand me better start from the end: check you account payable history. Acctual payment history (not when you print the cheque but when you actually mailed the cheque) Was it within 30 days as per agreed? How many times carrier called you before your company actually mailed the payment.

And if you want to go deeper.... look at the load history (loads with problems) Were you / you team helpful and respectful in resolving situation?

Were words like "respect", "loyalty", "honesty" etc in your daily vocabulary before December 2017?

You getting so many negative responds, so 99.99% sure the answer would be negative to all 3 points. So it's not how cheap or high your rates, it's all about relationship and how hard or easy to deal with your company.

As I said nothing personal, just saying - what I see.
AND. It's never late to change yourself for the better. :) Good Luck :)

We always pay quickly, so I don't see that being an issue, but yeah we wouldn't pay right away if issues came up or if the POD was missing something, just basic transport accounting stuff.

We're relatively easy to work with, but this is a two way street when it comes to certain things like POD, damage, delayed pickups/deliveries, in-transit modifications, etc.

@Igor Galanter thanks! Yes, we've assed the issues at hand, and we're trying to fix them, just a normal thing for anyone who wants to keep a good business running for many more years. Not trying to duck or hide or ignore anything from the past, but what's done is done and now we're trying to be better to people in the future

I am not trying to direct this thread in different direction, but on behalf of our factoring operations, we heard statements from our clients of G Roch being cheap, however when it comes to payment history, since 2011 Groch pays us on average within 17 days via cheques in the mail. Once again cheques were arriving via regular mail.

17 days with regular mail, that's pretty good, no?

as for the being cheap part, we're trying to fix that!

Interesting.. I would have offered him my primo rate.. knowing that he'd likely accept it given the market. Instead you went home empty when the market favored you making a decent dollar. Should have done it the other way 'round.. gone home empty when the loads were cheap and loaded in the current market.. ;)

Don't you get the rate from GRoch before picking up the load? If you do not, that is stupid. And if you do,why did you agreed to the rate? If GROCH prices are too low, why did you take the freight?
