good morning
has anyone ever worked with a broker who refused to reimburse a driver for the port fee's / on a pick up ?

nope but did you provide an all in rate?
they gave us the rate -
the tender showed how much the fee's would be - but didnt say it was on us to pay for them.. and honestly, we have never ever ever paid for the port fee's on a brokers load. if it was our customer, yes no question , but this a well known broker ..this is the first time in Tspt .
hence why i put the question out there .

What's the port fee - demurrage? or is it for your TWIC Escort?

If its for the demurrage - depends on your relationship with the broker I guess. I have certainly had a carrier clear the charges and reimbursed - but that's not common practice.

If it's a TWIC escort, 100% on you.

@Rob in a "you show me the receipt with the invoice?" or as in - put me in contact so I can put on my account?

Oof what a nightmare for the broker if #2

Ultimately, it should be the owner of the goods who pays this, or any additional fees. How they do that is the question. Similar to lumper fees, we ask the carrier to pay up front and then submit the receipt for the charges along with his invoice for the shipment. Our final invoice to our customer shows the freight charge and the additional fees as a separate accessorial item. Of course it is always best to inform the carrier of these additional fees ahead of time, simply to insure that the driver has the funds to pay on site.

exactly

I go to the port regularly and when quoting you should be aware of the additional charge. Whether they break it down with the charges or not it's up to you to know if you don't have a TWIC you'll be incurring additional charges.

If you have a TWIC there is no fee
If you don't have a TWIC you need a port escort to accompany you - They charge by an hourly rate so depends how long it takes you. (usually between 65-$85 per hour).

I have been doing intermodal since 2012 , it is actually a large part of my business. I would never hire a carrier that does not have a twic card and I think if they don't have one then they should tell their potential customer.
