Rome called with a load out of Owen Sound to Philly I asked what are you paying He told me that loads home were moving for 1000 dollars so it should be cheaper because it was outbound and we were getting to them on inbound I suggested that they have been getting to us for years I hung up

Rome tried getting setup as carrier with us, told them they are only a broker.

So they called back 2 weeks after trying to get setup as a broker, hahaha DNU NEVER NEVER NEVER!!!

Rome Transportation are nothing but carps. They used to fish for rates all the time and I finally told Steve (?) that I'm not their unpaid rates department and to pony up some freight. There's only a few companies in Owen Sound so it's not hard to imagine what it could be. Still, I'd laugh at them too. If there was no bottom of a barrel, where else would they scrape?

probably some ducking water bottles or some poop freight.

Interesting Conversation

A few things to comment about here. Relationships are huge - unfortunately, the industry is not as it used to be. There are huge quantities of trucking companies - some are more reliable than others. Due to natural fluctuations in supply and demand, there is a benefit for shippers in having a third party match trucking companies with freight that is right for them (brokers).

Brokers and Carriers need to learn to get along - they need each other and can work to make each other happy. Its difficult for Carriers because brokers are trying to move as much freight as possible for their customers and trying to get them the best deals and this comes across as dis-loyal when some prices are beat. Its difficult for Brokers because most (not all!!) carriers are concerned most with moving their trucks and dont view brokers as customers and this comes across as dis-loyal.

Brokers listen up- Know when to be honest to trucking companies when you are just quoting. If a trucking company is charging too much - tell them that - dont lie and beat around the bush! Use your head to learn the rates in a given area - dont mess things up and give rates that make the deal happen. Be fair.

Carriers listen up - Be patient with brokers. Give them rates that you need - if you cant match up on the rate or if you decide to talk about why the rates are the way they are - understand that Brokers do not own trucks and simply supply freight to those who could use it. Brokers Buy and Sell all day long and that is it!

correction

I meant to say-

Brokers - Always be honest with trucking companies when you are just quoting. That is the worst when they say its ready, but they are just wanting a price and they dont have the freight.
