Will a Trump/Republican administration change trucking in any significant way?

I keep reading industry articles that address whether or not a Trump/Republican administration will bring any significant changes to trucking.
Personally, I think it will be "business as usual" as far as lawmakers creating rules and regulations for things they know nothing about.
I'm interested to know what all of you think about this.

I personally think that the border crossing times into the US will be longer. Border agents are already a little wacky so I can't see how that won't get worse. Just like racism and bigotry have gotten worse. It's like Trump's election has given permission to the people with less class to let go and be heard...

NAFTA isn't getting touched at all so no changes.

In all the debates, wasn't Trump rambling on and on about how horrible NAFTA was and that he would get the US out of it as soon as he became president? He's getting very good at back-peddling and he isn't even president yet! LOL!

I see good things for the U.S economy which usually mean good things for ours. However martinetav makes a good point that if security tightens then longer border times could be a result. The problem is that once things tighten up they rarely loosen with a new government some day.

I doubt very much that the new administration has any changes planned for the transportation file. Changes to NAFTA, if there are to be any, would be minor from a Canadian perspective. I tend to agree with martinetav regarding the border issue. The Obama administration was very progressive on easing border congestion and a new preclearance procedure for bus and train travelers, similar to what we see at airports with US Customs, will soon be started in Toronto and Montreal. I fear that the next President might not be so agreeable to allowing easier access to the US. Might be a good time to get that Nexus card you've been putting off.

Agree. In Canada we were promised an election reform by Trudeau, but it seems obvious they're pushing away from that promise.

He does not have time. Him and Sophie have a full schedule of vacations and selfie tours planned. He may find time to get us a few hundred more taxes if he is not too busy..

I don't think it's effort that is delaying this. It's not in the best interest of the liberal party to have electoral reform when it's negative for them and their future.

conservatives sure have a short memory. Harper made for millions of dollars of cuts before he was voted out. It took them 10 years to put us in the deep doo doo we are in now. Do you really think the liberals can get us out of it in ONE year... Just the time to take a look at all the damages and evaluate how best to repair them would take that, about a year. Yes people I am a LIBERTARD. And I would appreciate it if conservatives stopped treating us like lower class citizens who should be bullied and called names. ( in general I mean) We don't call mentally handicapped people RETARDED any more and I don't think it is appropriate to use a version of that the classify political beliefs. Funny, I don't remember us liberals going on and on and on and on and on for 10 years while we had to endure the conservative government, but you all think it's appropriate to go on and on and on name calling etc because your party lost the election! Just wanted to get that off my chest because there are some people on here who will bring an insult to every conversation whether it is suitable or not... right ROB

LOL What insult? That is all he has done is go on Vacations and take selfies oh and say um a whole bunch anytime he talks. Did Harper run a deficit during the worst financial crisis since the great depression. Yes him and every other government in the world. I live in Ontario Martineatav and we have had Dalton and Kathy before Justin was voted in. I have had enough Liberal government. Wanna trade hydro bills..

I don't think putting people in groups as liberals or conservatives is right. I am liberal and conservative and will vote based on the policies of the party, not the name they associate with.

There have been poor politicians from both sides. I think holding any politician to their promises is the right thing. Especially electoral reform.

Ontario liberals are crap, but the ontario conservatives aren't any better. Also in Ontario and don't like either choice.

I loathed Harper and one day would love to piss on his grave.
I didn't vote for Justin or the Liberals either because the old saying still applies..

Tories or Grits..
Same pile of shit .

That said.. I fully admit to "going on and on" as you put it for not only the entire 10 years of that waste of skin Harper's tenure but railing against him prior to his election.

Sometimes shit has to be treated for what it really is...Shit.

I have zero faith that the current government will in reality be any better than the previous one.
They'll just 'appear' better..

As for the President-elect Trumplethinskin and his plans..

I think we should be preparing for 4 long years and another inevitable recession with the rabid foxes that he's putting in charge of minding the house.

The ONLY thing I agree with him on is that TPP would have been a disaster for Canadian workers..as well as American workers.
Thankfully that should now be dead in the water and flushed into the sewer where it belongs.

/Rant

Have a good Friday everyone :)

I'm just getting sick and tired of the meanness that the US election has brought out. It's like Trump's being elected has given permission to be intimidating, insulting and down right mean and no class. I thought Canadians were better than that... looks like I was wrong. Berating others does not make you superior...

I am afraid you might be right Martinetav. The concepts of politeness, thoughtfulness, equality, empathy, mutual respect and understanding, all of those traits that separate us humans from the animals.............are now classified as being "politically correct" and should be scorned and mocked.. I don't get it. I guess for the time being, rudeness has now somehow "trumped" civil behavior in our society. We will just have to wait and see.

I think Trump is your very typical American but with money, loud, obnoxious and better than everyone else and this allows all other Mericans to be themselves. Don't get me wrong I know tons of great Americans but the vast majority have this attitude that the USA is what everyone else in the world wants their country to be when in reality it is the complete opposite. The US could be a study on how a non communist country can convince its population to think they are the best when in actuality they are failing just about every level for the people (number of people murdered, health care, education, poverty etc).
With that being said I think Justin will become his lapdog after a few good whacks on the nose with a paper and Canada will be ok because we have a couple of things going for us, first they think we are their weird hippy cousins that pose no threat and secondly we have resources that some day they will need and take.
