I don't know what it is, but wow!?!? I have carriers that I use on a regular basis tring to lie about waiting time... What is up in the world of carriers lately? Just because I broker freight does not mean that I don't know how to audit a log book, let alone drive a truck. It used to be that problems were dealt with together in unison. Lately it seems a lot of carriers would rather lie to you then tell you what they think you don't want to hear. Are carriers afraid someone might yell at them or chastise them...."The truth will set you free!" I will go to bat for a carrier if he's above board with me. If a carrier lies to me I let them fend for themselves in the shark pool and cut them off...

Honesty.

I think if you were to take a poll, we would find that Brokers lie to carriers way more often that the other way around. If I had a choice to do a load for a freight broker or another carrier I would always pick the carrier. The carrier usually has a better idea about the freight they are moving. So many times I call on a load that is posted and the broker is not sure even what the frieght is, how heavy, payout ect. It is pretty frustrating and a waste of my time. However. There is only a handfull very good brokers that I will use. This is just my opinoin

Aceofspades,i'm a broker who has dispatched ,dock foreman and just about anything else in this industry,i find for the most part i'm dealing with dispatchers who know jack-shit about there own job let a lone there industry,,do you know how many times i hear them say ,well i'll have to check with the driver...hahaha,as a broker i leave nothing to chance with the carriers,so i'm not one of those lying brokers you speak of.

By the way godfather,,once again hats off to you ,you nailed it ..

Just a thought.... if you use satellite tracked carriers, then you can always see where the vehicle & freight is... even after the fact you can get a print out of the positioning.. no chance of lying :)

Keep on truckin... I agree with you.... I'm also a broker who has worked for carriers, loaded hundreds of trucks... etc.... I too notice that most dispatchers don't know a thing about the industry in general. It's a pretty even keep between brokers and dispatchers.. you get good and bad in each...

Here is a story of a great carrier I had the pleasure of working with just recently.

Picked up a ltl load with a 9:30 am delivery appt at sobey's. When checking on delivery status at 10:30, i was told the truck was behind 30 min as it could not get into their dock in the morning to offload onto a local truck.

The following day I received a call asking for 3 hrs waiting time. I explained that this would be difficult as he had arrived 1.5 hrs late and did not let anyone know. Obviously, he missed his dock time and other drivers had appt's which they kept, so he had to wait till they had free space. I was then told he went in at 11 on purpose cause he knows Sobey's takes a while to offload and he was trying to save me money. He also stated he would never have taken the load if he knew it was sobey's, but he values customer service and never gives back a load after taking it..... just ignoring the appt times, jeopardizing my clients dealing with sobey's, my dealings with my client.

Go figure !.....

Issue of honesty in a recession and CH ROBINSON

I agree there's a lot less honesty out there but on both sides. We have the vast majority of freight brokers competing for freight and hurting the rates and truckers spending more time in flying J travel plazas willing to work for rates that will bankrupt them in no time if they're lucky to get paid. It's kind of hard to find honest folks given these circumstances but believe it or not there are some.

CH Robinson in Canada are probably the most dishonest freight brokers and they will keep you on hold forever or cut you off while you're on hold. I have some much difficulty dealing with Ontario and Quebec agents for CH Robinson. They' re killing the rates and double-brokering freight that CH ROBINSON agents in the US have a decent rate on to start off with. They grab the freight and broker it for the less amount they can find someone ot do it. People should get to together and wipe these CH Robinson offices off the map. They're absolutely despicable. The worse of them all is RYAN that works in one of the Toronto offices. All calls from CHROBINSON in Quebec and Ontario will go unanswered thanks to caller ID. I call for a boycott of these freight pimps that have absolutely no knowledge of trucking except the knowledge that they can make a quick hundred bucks from someone that seriously in need of a load. My name is Thomas Donaldson from the Canadian Trucking Watchdog. You can google it. This site is excellent! With those owner's permission I would like to add a link for this site on my blog.

I have to say, cudos to Montrealtrucker. Someone else who actually understands what I'm talking about. I thought I was the only one willing to actually say something on here about this. There is only one difference between us sir, I don't think half the dispatchers have the brains to do what CH is doing. They're merely trained monkeys doing exactly what they're told by management because they don't know any better. I do agree that they should be boycotted as they are devious P.O.S.'s....

Totally agree with you but how do we get rid of them, there's alot of carriers that need to pack it up and stay packed up. It is way to easy to start a company up move freight double broker then screw the good guys. Loadlink is making it possible for this to happen, they need a stricker way of allowing companies on there. But they will take whoever is willing to pay there fee for there service it is unfair.
I worked for a company that works as a broker and carrier and you know what vechicle was registered the owners pick up truck! Do you own trucks um ya a truck LOL! It is so easily done and it is totally unfair for the hard working companies that have the proper authorities pay there bills and treat there drivers properly.
I kind of got off the topic of honesty sorry guys, maybe we need to start a tread on ch rob no more!
Also what if we start a thread on easy scams of the industry I know we have a few good ones on checking running authorities, insurance references etc. I truely believe shippers and receivers need to be more aware of what is going on I can't believe the amount of times I have sent a driver into a booking and they radio me and say it's been picked up by someone else! Brokers need to tell shippers who is coming in I know a few that freight has been taken and never found again! Ok that is my Friday thoughs!
