What do you think? I'm curious.

Payment should be 30 days from receiving FULL paperwork - invoice and POD together.
Which brings up a very interesting question ... that maybe needs its own thread ... who really needs the POD these days?
I know load brokers do so they can delay payment, but generally speaking most modern day companies (those that leverage technology) don't really need, or in some cases want, the POD.

That is true, many, not all, but many companies do not ask for the POD to complete the freight payment process. However, at some point in the future, that same customer may ask for a copy of the POD. Who knows, maybe their customer is hassling them about some other, unrelated matter. In any event, we have found that requesting a copy of the POD with the carriers invoice, prevents possible problems down the road. If we need to provide it, we know we have it. Once again, not ALL brokers engage in some sort of devious delaying tactic. It is quite simple….if you want to get paid, give me a signed proof of delivery and a complete invoice. That shouldn’t be too difficult for a well run, professional carrier to comply with. For those who have a hard time keeping track of their own paperwork, well that’s a different story.

You guys would be surprised how many companies just send freight invoice without a pod - which is ppwrk incomplete

If a shipper or a broker wants to pay their freight invoices without an accompanying POD, great. As for this notion that some brokers use requiring a POD as a means to delay payment, I would hazard a guess that there are as many carriers who, for whatever reason, are simply incapable of providing a POD with their freight invoice.

Gotta agree with you on that one !!!

One last thought on this topic that no one has mentioned yet, is the proof a POD provides as to who the actual delivering carrier was. It certainly isn’t iron clad evidence of double brokering if the name on the POD is different than the carriers name you contracted with, but it does raise some suspicions and worthy of additional investigation.

Wouldn't it be great if the shipper or driver always wrote down the name on the side of the truck on the BOL for every shipment? And every time a shipment transfered to another carrier that carrier would write their name as secondary/etc carrier? It would make life so simple when shit hit the fan.

Keep well,
Mike

Reactions: Shakey and loaders
My take.. it doesn't matter. Pay it as fast as possible. I have people (factoring companies mostly) who count the days from the invoice date.. and even that date is sometimes before the load was even on the radar. A recent example from a large well known factoring company: Load tendered to carrier August 19.. load picked up August 20.. delivered August 24. Invoiced received on September 1.. invoice date: August 12. My response was to pay it right away and live with the days 2 pay clock starting on August 12. Why? I don't much enjoy arguing with a fence post, and that's what you get when you call in to their office (only typical fence post is smarter and more efficient).

Yes, and "tolerate" would be exactly the word I would use. Fighting it wouldn't be the best use of my time... and I've done that before only to wind up even worse off than initially..An A hole tax might work, only problem would be that it would apply to almost everything..
Need to start a new thread for this tax:
