I agree, we have made the decision to not haul for Walmart and Loblaws as well. I love it when the broker books the load with us but doesn't tell us its Walmart. After getting the confirmation we cancel the load because of Walmart.
For Loblaws we ended up with a $1000 fine passed through a broker for not wearing a high-vis vest. When challenged the broker sent the video of the driver who had it on the whole time but after he drove out, after having the guard shack check the empty trailer, pulled forward, closed the doors, walked back to the cab, took the vest off and then climbed into the truck and left the property. They claim the fine was because he took off his vest while still on the property, even though it was outside of the guard shack. If these companies are so intent on making money off the carriers instead of making money selling their goods, then we will avoid them. Believe it or not, carriers do not make enough money in this industry to take $1000.00 hits.
The same problem happened to Zellers back in the day in the 2000's. They detained trucks for full days even though they made appointments on time. Day cab drivers slept in their cabs through the night with some getting unloaded at 5am the next morning. Manufacturers were expected to pay for the detention and had no recourse. Eventually everyone refused to go there.
