Unload and reload for customs inspection

thebluffs1......the obvious reason is that they will get paid right away and not have to make a lot of phone calls or work. It is much simpler for them not us which seems to be the case for everything we do in this business. I'm getting tired of being at the bottom of the hill.

Unfortunately I think we would need to get out of the trucking part of this and get into something that puts us at the top of the hill...........unfortunately after 27 years I've learned how to wade through it pretty good.

Dump the payment on the Customs Broker, they are responsibile for the payment but if the carrier is willing to give a credit card number.......................you can chase the freight broker for the money. When it's LTL once you've paid you will never collect. Best to give Stream the Customs Brokers phone number and play dumb.

Thanks for the tip.
I have one driver being unloaded at Lacolle as we speak. I asked our driver to let me me speak with the fork lift operator. I told him that this was a customs issue and that as such should be addressed by the CUSTOMS BROKER handling the clearance , UPS in this case.
The fork lift operator said that as long as my driver signed the bill he would issue it to UPS.

Thanks , the bluffs it will not have to front $350.00 for 45 days!!

That is good advice to contact the customs broker. We have always paid by credit card and then been reimbursed by the freight broker whom I assumed goes after their customer for the charges. The thought has crossed my mind many times that at some point I will have a hard time collecting from the freight broker. Now I will know to contact the customs broker right away and try to wash my hands from the get go. Of course, this usually happens late at night when it is hard to get in touch with anyone anyways!! But, on several occasions, the freight being examined was LTL and as long at the signed receipt has the pars # that was examined specifically written on it, I have never had a problem recovering the monies.

In the end the forklift operator just made out the bill to UPS , my driver never signed a thing, nor did I advise UPS.
Customs brokers invoice are due upon receipt of invoice, better they get paid in 7 days than us in 45.
