If you freight is at all time sensitive I suggest finding another carrier.

Load was to pick up last week in Florida on Wednesday.(really cheap customer plays the game with Florida as he knows it will cost him during season) Get an email 4.45 pm saying truck blew a tire cannot load till Thursday. Okay poop happens in trucking. I was told they would load first thing Thursday. Thursday the blow out caused more damage but they will load it that day which they did, late in the afternoon.

Friday the customer calls and says they need the product first thing Monday as they are out and need it for production. I call Alexandra and she promises Monday 8am delivery.

Monday they are not there at 8 because of traffic and fog. 9 am getting close but moving slow. 10 am 10 km away. Driver finally shows up at 11am. All had to be done via email as dispatch in a meeting all morning today until I called from my cel at 11am and she just got to the office. Funny how that happened also.

Customer is pissed.

Beware of this carrier

very odd, we`ve never had an issue with them, they scored 87.50% on pick up and delivery on-time-service and that was only one slightly late pick up.

Sounds like they had legitimate equipment repairs on Wednesday and Thursday and kept you advised. They pick up a load (cheap as you indicated, but not the point) late in the day Thursday and deliver Monday morning albeit 3 hours late (fog and traffic) and now they are being posted on the internet as a "don't use if time sensitive" carrier.
Maybe I am showing my age, but I sure miss the days when service was measured by days instead of minutes.
I am getting tired of customers who feel that every load is to be treated like "live organs" on the way to an operating table for transplant.
I am not saying this is the case, but I have driven all night to meet a "critical life or death deadline" too many times only to find out when I get there to see a warehouse full of the stuff and the receiver really didn't care when I got there.
Just saying.............

Whatiship.

What I really think is she was full of shit from the get go and the truck was not delivering until Thursday and the rest was bs. (advised not going to make pick up at 445 pm when load was dispatched and driver was supposedly mty 100 miles away at 9am)

As far as the delivery sounds to me like the driver left Windsor at 7-8am and delivered at 11. The receiver sent production crew home at 9am with no work as the product that was promised for 8am showed up at 11. The communication was all BS. How is a truck 10 km away at 9.45 am and does not get to receiver until 11am.

I may be new at this having only driven for 20 years before being in the office for 10 but I kinda smell something fishy. Just sayin...

I also have driven all night for said hot freight but don't completely blow it on a first shipment and be unreachable until I call on a cel 3 hours after scheduled appointment.

Rob,

Are you saying that this is one of the carriers that promises the world and then does what they feel like? Good enough for me to not give them 'truly hot' freight.

I've got one of those this morning too (with another carrier), original delivery apt was for 7:30AM this morning, we confirmed yesterday afternoon that the trailer was in the carrier yard and driver was allocated to the load for this morning (30 mins from yard to consignee). Tracing this morning, er, uh, hmmm, I'll get it delivered by 11AM... Not caring, no reason, nothing - at least that aren't BSing us, just crappy service. Bah!!

Keep well,
Mike

I guess it sounded like I was taking the side of the carrier and not sympathising with your service issue. My main point was that It seems like everything we touch these days is critical and time sensitive. Yes, that's the world we live in and have chosen to participate in, however my point is that in days gone by delivering a load from Florida within 3 hours of the expected time would not have been reason to flag a carrier as being undependable. There has always been "hot time sensitive freight" however now everything is hotter and more sensitive.
I am not saying that in your case it was not a legitimate service failure, if you smell BS It usually is. I am only saying that the definition of service failure has very much changed over the years, and I for one prefer the old definition.

I agree whatiship. trucking was fun back in the day and yes everything is time sensitive now or so they say but this one was and they really dropped the ball.
Very true. I think what happens a lot of the time is that when a dispatcher says the day before that a certain delivery time is on schedule he/she truly means it. However sometimes it is another customers request (or demand) that kind of throws a wrench into the plans. Or, you finally figure out how you are going to make five 8am appointments with 4 trucks and a driver calls in sick.
The reality of the situation is that most people try and do their jobs the best they can and sometimes you just hope that being late will go unnoticed as opposed to making the dreaded call admitting that you cant keep your promise.
Anyway, gotta run. Pack Rat is at the door delivering my pizza.

Well, winter will eventually arrive and there will be 'SERVICE FAILURES'. We arrived 1h20 minutes late due to and accident once and it was considered a service failure... The whole time I had the broker screaming at me on the phone that I was playing with his livelihood. He to told me it was BS. We are not all liars you know... sometimes it really isn't our fault. Now a days doing your very best and beyond for Dollar store rates isn't good enough for people who have no Idea... and worse, sometimes they do...

Martineav,

We all have service failures. I should of stated they where 1 day and 3 hours late I guess. If they would of picked up on the Wednesday am (as dispatched and agreed to) Friday out of North Florida is an easy delivery.

But alsa a blown tire cause 1.5 days late ( I should of went with my gut at this point) for pick. Then they have a whole crew sent home and loose a days wage because they where in traffic. Here is thinking outside the box. When there is fog and rain called for Monday in Mississauga leave Windsor Sunday night and sleep in the truck so you don't fail again..Yes the rate was cheap, yes we all make mistakes, no one is perfect but as I stated before I think Alexandra at United Bros.(Windsor) is full of shit and lied the whole way to get the load because as we all know inbound is tight.

Hence my if it is time sensitive DNU

I understand completely. Not all brokers and not all carriers are so miserable but nothing upsets me more then being yelled at for something totally unreasonable and out of ones control ie Mother nature.....and women seem to get yelled at more, I have experienced this first hand.

Ahh missing info. Well I have a hard time with people who out and out lie myself. Many time recently especially, we could have lied in order to get the load. We don't do that. We always tell the truth but sometimes ship happens and god forbid it happens with a broker who thinks a truck drives like a car...

If we have screwed up you get about 30 seconds of yelling (because people have to vent) and then let's figure out how to solve the problem but if you want to continue the yelling you will be hearing a dial tone because I treat people the way I want to be treated and if you can't act professional then we have nothing to talk about.

The point is, if there are problems completing the delivery, be proactive and call the shipper/broker. The only thing that makes a screw-up worse than it actually is, is hearing about it from my customer before I get the call from the carrier. The truth might be painful, but it is considerably better than trying to decipher and navigate through a web of lies and distortions.
