Two dead in Bathurst and Steeles accident
Two killed in Steeles Avenue crash - Tuesday, June 29, 2011
Two people are dead including an 87-year-old woman after a vehicle lost control and struck three elderly pedestrians near Bathurst Street and Carpenter Road.
The accident happened at about 11:45 a.m.
Police say a male driver in his 50s had a heart attack at the wheel, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.
He was transported to hospital, but later succumbed to his injuries.
Steeles is closed between Bathurst and Torresdale Avenue as police investigate.
A woman in her 70s, who was the sister of the 87-year-old victim, was also taken to hospital, but her injuries are not considered life-threatening.
The 7 Bathurst and 60 Steeles buses are diverting.
