A judge has dismissed applications from the truck driver who caused the deadly Humboldt Broncos bus crash in Saskatchewan and was fighting deportation back to India. Jaskirat Singh Sidhu was sentenced to […]

similar accident in Carberry, MB where the bus driver was at fault - he wasn't imprisoned / sentenced - he also ran a stop sign and was responsible for the death of 16 lives.
so why is just one person being made an example of? would like an answer to that question - it's been over 6 months - no public outcry - no rage that the bus driver was not following rules etc...

Because he is not Indian descent. I'm not being racial.

Seniors lives are worth less than teenagers, pretty easy math on that one(purely monetary POV). The investigation also hasn't been completed....

I think it depends on your perspective of the judicial system and if you believe in restorative justice. If you do, you keep him here and don't deport him. If you don't, you send him back. He made a fatal mistake, he didn't start his day wanting to kill anyone, it wasn't a DUI and he is clearly been remorseful. He still may have something to offer this country.

What’s truly unfortunate is, things haven’t improved out on our roadways since this Humboldt crash. It’s as if it wasn’t serious enough.
They introduced MELT, and that sounded real promising but the reality is it didn’t do much in terms of training better drivers. It’s worse than ever out there on the roads.

Take a look at the Skilled Truckers Page and see all carnage, footage of near misses and complete stupidity. It’s disturbing that this continues to go on without any attention from people in charge.

All newcomers to Canada, permanent residents, and citizens are protected by The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the overarching principle being the fair and EQUAL treatment of all. He has A lawyer..and he doesn’t even need a good one to ensure his stay in Canada based on his Charter rights. He should serve his sentence and deal with what happened, but booting him out of Canada would be discriminatory and contrary to the Charter. Deportation should be reserved for those individuals who came here fraudulently or have taken deliberate actions against Canada. It shouldn’t apply to someone who was involved in an accident, regardless of fault or severity. What's next? We deport people who get sick or have too many points on their license? Or maybe we deport people who miss a mortgage payment or go bankrupt. I'm not defending the driver..but he should be treated no differently had he been a Canadian citizen..i.e. equal treatment under the law.

The only question here is whether the driver of the Humboldt accident was a Canadian citizen or not, and if not, where was he in the process of his citizenship. From what I have read I understood that he was not a Canadian citizen and he was on the path to citizenship.
He plead guilty to a number of criminal offences after consulting with a lawyer. If the conditions of his citizenship path were to refrain from criminal offences, then he is subject to the expectations that were laid out which were most likely created with the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms in mind. It also doesn't happen immediately; he has had other options presented to him and this article is written in response to his attempt to one of those options where he was not successful.
