Transplace Acquires Canadian Logistics Company

Transplace said it has acquired Canadian logistics company Torus Freight Systems. Terms were not disclosed.

Torus focuses on Canadian cross-border and intra-Canada freight and is headquartered in Richmond Hill, Ontario.

“Geographic expansion was our goal, and that’s exactly what we have accomplished with this acquisition,” said Transplace CEO Tom Sanderson.

Torus people were good to work with.Never had to call in for payment. cheque was always in my hand with in 40 days.I hope they keep same people and pay trend.

I worked there for many years. They were mostly a good company to work for and truthfully, the main reason I left was because I saw the way the industry was heading. Pure brokers are not having a good time gaining new business because brokers are seen to add more value in growth periods and when supply is perennially tight, which hasn't been for years. The big non-asset based players have been growing business mostly based on IT solutions such as TMS and other informational expertise they provide (in Canada, those are players like Lakeside, Wheels, Nulogx etc). In the US, much of CH's growth is on the heels of its mytmc offering, and if you look at Hub then you'll see its traditional freight brokerage is shrinking while Unyson is growing. It can be argued that the significant IT offering makes these players asset based, just not in the traditional sense.

It was well known that Transplace was looking for Canadian presence (it was a big hole with them). I'm surprised they actually chose Torus because their expertise doesn't synergize with Transplace, except for the fact they know how to move freight.

Point is ... with the age of a lot of the owners of medium sized independent Canadian brokers ... expect more of this.

So we didn;t take the load - but the set up packet they sent us has MC# and DOT# that are inactive in SAFER
the insurance is expired and there is a bond certificate that I have no idea how to check - called no ans.

Someone out there is brokering as Torus Freight ... any idea if this is legit?

Pretty Sure that company referred to above was "Torus Traffic Systems" owned by Eric Gratrix (I think he had a few partners... but Eric was the figurehead of the company.

SCAC Code TFFR belongs to Traffic Tech. Another piece of information showing a scam.
