unbelievable. so intent on having her take a leave of absence so they don't have to pay her. so greedy.
I know that this may create a posting storm and soon this may be the longest thread on this website but 22.5M? I know you cannot put a price on a life but that is jackpot money. That is not an award - that is a reward.
I have very little good to say about the way that TQL handles their brokerage business. but the way I read it, both parties have their faults here, and I'm sure that there are tons more pertinent information that the news article did not post. Someone can make a 2hr movie on all the branching timelines with different outcomes.
What is happening here is an after-the-fact, hindsight, paint a sob story and get a 12-person jury to come up with some number. For 12 people of all walks of life to sit in a room and all agree on a number is to all agree to the highest number suggested. Bravo to the lawyer, who probably gets 50%.
I'm afraid to say that this unfortunate outcome could have happened if she never got the job at all. If it all comes down to someone getting up out of bed and going to work then that might have happened if the same person went to the grocery store. If it was that serious the doctor should have just wrote the note for a complete leave. TQL didn't chain her to the desk - all they did is maybe give her a difficult choice to make and the decision that she eventually chose was incorrect.
I disagree with the outcome. Bad things happen to a lot of people and a lawsuit will never stop it or fix it. These nuclear verdicts have to stop because the sky is the limit and soon everybody will have to pay for it.

welcome to America, where you can get sued for breathing at this point. At the end of it, TQL's most likely not going to pay a dime close to that amount. This will get dragged out in appeals for another god know how long. But imo these verdicts are more for the optics, seeing 22 Mill on a headline does bring a lot more eyes to the situation at hand and at the very least stirs up the discussion around the issue. At some point in time, we have all come across these types of situations while working for someone where your put in a tough spot to make a decision, I can relate to what Mrs. Walsh was put through. Its sad that a life was lost and condolences to her and her family.
