Anyone have any experience with this company? I think I am bout to be screwed for 16.5 hours at a delivery I did for them...Apparently they are not getting paid any detention time from THEIR client...how is that my problem?

totally typical for TQL.....they always screw the carrier on loading time if you let them get away with it. The only way to deal with them is to contact their customer direct to advise of the detention billing, that generally brings them back into line.
They are one of the least ethical brokers out there, in terms of the ways in which they acquire and maintain their sales, the rates they offer, and the manner in which they treat the carriers. Stay as far away from TQL as you can, as there are lots of freight brokers with a sense of ethics and market reality that I would prefer to work for.
 
Remind them that after 2.0 hrs that unless it is stated on there confermation sheet that
detention time applies
 
This is the same TQL that cancelled a load on me because we were running 1 hour behind schedule for pick up. "Their story" was apparently their shipper books as many trucks as possible and auctions off the loads to the trucks who get there first.

Even an idiot could come up with a better story than that.

Oh yea and I didn't get compensated for the roughly 150 dead head miles and the 1 1/2 days I lost.... I guess that's how the auction goes?:confused:

The other problem with TQL is that not to many of their dispatchers know anything about trucking. All they know are phrases "Where is your truck" , "Give me your drivers phone number", and they know how to get upset and yell at you , not try and help to resolve issues, when they occur.
 
Just a suggestion do up an AR/AP to fax with your confermation paper work list your charges for detention time, state your HR rate.DON'T FORGET to put a line in for print and sign
At least you have a paper trail and a name that agreed to the terms

We have never had an issue with them ... but, you have to realize they are only a tool for turning money, not a real broker. Their rates aren't always the best, but they do pay on time.
 
Wow, I'm surprized at TQL not paying for waiting time. We call them when we get to hour 1 without being touched and they tell us to get a signature showing the waiting time. Last week I billed them for 8 hours at $50 per for a city driver we paid $18 an hour to. Maybee it depends who you book a load with, but they are ok in my book.
 
Just got screwed by these guys big time. Truck sat at the border all night 5:00pm until 11:00am the next day, due to a paperwork issue that we weren't notified about until 5:00pm when the truck went to cross, even had an entry#. TQL (Kevin Rampe) was notified at 5:05pm and of course nobody could do anything. E-mail TQL @ 8:06am and at this time informed them of what the layover rate was ($350.00) which is fair for a stepdeck and we've been charging without complaint since 2006. Truck was released by customs at 11:00am and due to deliver in OH at 4:00pm Get a call from Kevin @ 2:00 saying, nope, we're not paying that, we can only pay a hundred bucks........ So I stopped the truck in his tracks. Talked to the supervisor Scott and he was just as useless as Kevin. Apparently they also seem to think that $3.00 a mile into Ohio on a step is way to much money as well. Long story short, we had to settle for a lousy $150.00 and get blacklisted from TQL............. Oh my, how will I sleep tonight!!!!!

TQL, We did 5 6 loads for them. Our brand new truck had some problem and check engine light came on and had to take to freightliner. Truck was down for day and half. Told TQL of problem. They kept saying would let us know when ready, we even offer that I can have rental truck and deliver load and can pick up my truck way back. Anyway, load was late for a day. No claim yet. After 45 days I recived letter saying that their customer is deducting 1000.00 for late delivery. Even we got paid for that (late) load from TQL.
So we stopped dealing with them.

Gord, do the tractor and trailer have no cost? What about fuel, maintenance and insurance? No overhead, office supplies or office rent to pay?
 
I have dealt with TQL for 5 years and I have been through 7 different agents. I have used them to find me trucks, but I will never take loads from them.. There dispatchers have no idea what they are doing.
 
We have colleced from them in the past. Although the rates are supposedly cheap, they seem to pay on time. But there has yet to be an issue with wait time.

Best way to deal with wait time is to deal with it before it happens, via a written agreement beforehand. With no agreement in hand you're pretty much SHOL..
 
They refused to sign anything. Nor do they have a set rate for waiting time or layovers according to the dispatcher, but when I talked to his stupervisor, he told me that they have agreed accesorial charges for every customer but refused to tell me what they are or give it to me in writing, even though I had already faxed them ours.

We had an issue with them a couple of weeks ago paying only $25 an hour for 4 out of 8 hours waiting to offload at SCM. We wont do any more loads for them unless they spell out they will pay at least $40 an hour for waiting time. Plus we were screwed around for two weeks waiting until they agreed to pay a lousy $100 bucks.

They are real close to going on our DNU list
 
Has anyone else got issues with the fact that they want you to sign TWO contracts - one being a US/CANADA broker/carrier agreement and another one being a broker/motor carrier agreement? These Americans are contract crazy! Harvard Law School b.s. just for one freakin' load.
