Together we can do it

I have no problem telling anyone who asks who I am. I only hide behind a screen name because this is a public forum on teh internets. Anytime I send a PM to members here, I always put my real name and my company name and phone number.

It's not always just the members of this forum you are being anonomous from.

(How many times did I spell that word wrong? I am thinking 2)

there is an option on link where you can set up your own private network, so in the case where you need to post you have the option to post to all members or your private network of carriers/brokers.

I also do not have a problem with providing my name to the reputable carriers and brokers out there. I also will be attending the meet and greet on the 19th and fully expect to provide my name and place of business. Hope to see some of you there

Again ... the point is we should be doing most of our business through relationships we have fostered ... not through the internet to the highest/lowest bidder ... depending what side of the fence you're on. This would solve 90% of the problem.

Together we can do it?

I have no problem with giving out my real name if needed and agree with THEMAN. I sell and buy loads from time to time and unlike a freight broker I do not need to make 10 to 20 percent profit on extra loads that I can not cover with my own trucks, as I only want to supply a service to my customers and also look at long term business.

Maybe we should look at posting our loads and or trucks on this site (not sure if outbound from Montreal loads would be of use to anyone).

As this discussion goes along maybe a certain consensus can be achieved. I am confident that bad apples could be weeded out fairly easily/quickly and I am not talking about problem loads(mechanical,weather,customs... problems do occur on a constant basis but most of those can be proven). I do not like the idea of placing comments on service from a company as sometimes I see some of them without having the story from both sides and others can use this tool as a mean to get more business by sending bad comments towards competition.

If we are lets say 500 companies trading between each others it could make this very interesting. I am always a little scared of giving freight to some small companies in Ontario as I do not know them very well and got nailed a few times with nonchalant follow ups and or no follow ups at all from their initial dispatchers. I tend to give all my freight to the same carriers at all times if I am satisfied with the service and the same goes to buying from the same reliable sources whether direct or loads brokered out to me.

This site could help me find reliable carriers with others on this site that can vouch for them.

I would use this site first and if no bite would then post on the other sites.

Keep up this constructive discussion.:)

I agree with all of you. I worked for a transportation company and now working for a payment company. I look on here and hope that I get reliable information. I have for years and hope to continue getting good information. This site is great and hope that people use it wisely.

I am certainly in favor of some changes that would help weed out the growing multitudes of transport & logistics firms that do not pay their invoices.

Although, I do not in any way agree with the line of thought that I see in the prior postings in this thread.

I beleive that we should not be looking at ways of barring entry to new or existing memebers. This smells of protectionism and I do not see how we as a group could controll this.
As we do not trust many of the credit references we are given by prospective clients, why should we trust a member vouching for another.

What we should be doing is , agressively lobbying our politicians and transport ministers regarding the issue of non apyments that have now become an epidemic. In this, I include major bankrupcies that leave smaller carriers holding the bag.

What we should call for is a task force to look into the way we all do business and to implement measures that will correct the present lack of conformity.

I am sure that we have the legal tools to make this work, we just do not know how to use them.

In the USA if a person issues a check without funds knowingly, they have comitted a crime and a simple call to the sherriff wil have them arrested and charge , with generally serious consequences.

Here we have Carriers / brokers that issue such checks, or have work carried out with no intenetion of paying for the service and I have yet to hear of one that has been punished!!

I totally agreed with you very well said and very true....

It's true. I handle receivables for a factoring company, and sometimes I can't believe what I see. Our customers continue taking loads from companies who still owe them from loads that are over 100 days old...

When I see the brand new invoice sitting in my system, I almost have a heart attack (even though we aren't personally at risk, as credit was removed from these "lowlifes" long ago.) I want to shake our customer, yelling "you aren't that hard up!"
