Sure..96 OUT of the Northeast...I can see that. It's bad..but it's not as if 96 is what the rates are generally. My own rates in the states vary from 1.23 to 2.00 plus...plus fuel adjustment..

Here's another funny one, just found out that White Oak is running out of Hamilton to Ashland KY for $900.00 CDN, I just can't understand how anybody can make any type of a profit out of that. $1.73 PM is just a way to go broke quicker and join the ranks of B.R. Smith etc.

rant for today

I just called a broker about a load that we JUST did for them a few days ago - exact same pickup and exact same delivery, same product, weight, etc.
From Monday to today (Thursday) the rate has magically dropped $100!!!!
How do they justify it, you ask? Oh, the girl who usually handles that lane was gone so they paid too much last time! The original rate was bad enough but now it is supposed to be better?!

We are starting to hear from our major customers that they want to lock in rates for a year or two. They know that they can't get much lower and that in the not too distant future rates will have to go up when the freight volumes pick up. This does not mean that they are going up tomorrow but I would say in the next 6 months they should.

The roller coaster ride should change and it needs to change but so difficult!
What sucks is if the "bad guys" were forced out of the trucking industry rates would have never dropped so much and then they are going to also then force the rates to increase so much. It will never be a win win industry as standards are not proper or properly governed/regulated.
I am so glad this site is here and we can all do our best to let us know about the bad guys.
Our rates will not be increasing to our regular shippers/brokers but I do have a nice list of brokers who have totally low balled freight here and there rates will be higher. If they don't like it take it somewhere else, which is the same thing I told them when they tried to book freight with us at way too low prices!

The other important factor is that transportation salespeople have to stop selling on price alone. There are too many out there that feel it's their responsibility to make the manufaturers more profitible by lowering the shipping rates. I think this whole industry needs a "reset" button. I just hope it's not at the cost of all the good carriers/brokers.

To all the carriers out there pulling decks, watch out, Sylvite Transportation out of Burlington is out there undercutting big time ($1,500 CDN on 770 miles), I guess that puts them in the same class as Redman now. News is that they hired the guy who owned KO Transportation, which went bankrupt 2yrs ago, as a salesman and dispatcher.

Where do your trucks steal their fuel you can't operate below $2.00 PM and thats just barley covering costs only

I TOTALLY agree with you but unfortunately this industry will never stick together -that is why there are barely any regulations anymore. I have been watching CHR and others on the link ALL DAY LONG today posting their buck per mile loads and everytime someone takes it! I cannot count how many loads I have refused today because the rates are too insulting to even consider. We are standing our ground on rates but we are getting killed by everyone else. Maybe the others will wake up someday soon.
