We brokered a couple of loads to Muskoka (which has been bought by Titanium) and the next thing we hear is a salesman from Titanium Logistics is contacting our customer.

Is anybody else experiencing issues with Titanium back-dooring accounts?

Maybe not, but I find that the larger the carrier the less loyalty they will have for 3rd party business. A smaller carrier normally relies on 3pl's much more than a big one simply because a smaller carrier normally does not have a sales department and 3pl business represents a bigger portion of their total sales. Not always the case but I would say that more often than not it is the truth.

Hey ShipHappens,

Have you confronted Titanium about it? Just wondering, and if they admitted it or tried to weasel out...

This phase of the decline in freight is going to hit us smaller carrier hard. The big guys are stepping in where we usually don't have to compete with them. They're killing rates to get loads and then signing up a new customer... the load never to be seen again...

Johnny-Chicken,
I approached Muskoka and was told Titanium Logistics has no access to their records which is why I was curious if this was just a fluke that they approached our customer or if others have experienced this as well. I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt as I've dealt with them for years prior to the buy out.

ShipHappens,

Do not be deceived. Titanium has full access to all of Muskoka's records - including all their customers.

Their salesmen have followed our trucks many times and then 'dropped' in on the customer. They are good enough to point out how much better they are because they are bigger.

We try and stay out of their way as much as possible.

I share a client with the trucking side of Titanium and my client gets cold calls from their logistics sales reps at least once a year.

I've not done anything with them myself. But someone here has. They're disabled in our system because of back solicitation.

I thought titanium bought pro north when did they buy muskoka ? and which muskoka delivery or transport

They bought both ProNorth and Muskoka, and several other smaller companies.

what region is this customer in? ever think that maybe it's just a fluke? they probably have a ton of sales people making sales call all the time, they're bound to hit someone they already service through one of their divisions...

Titanium has expanded much like Royal Plastics did years ago, with Vic Dezen behind these entities! Very aggressive and doing well.

If it happens once, sure ya give them the benefit of the doubt. But based on the frequency expressed below it looks like it happens a lot.
If a commission based sales rep see's regular moves to or from a customer in their territory and can thinks that they have a shot at getting the business on a direct basis, it is pretty tempting for them to try. Not saying it's right, but it happens.

It's possible that the sales rep or reps just happen to be calling on the accounts. The logistics sales reps are purely commissioned there so they'll do whatever if nobody says no to them.
