Need some feedback on what a tire service call should cost. We have a tire provider that comes in to do changeovers and flat repairs etc.

They are charging a $62.00 service call each time. We are only 10 km from their shop.

Does anyone else have a better rate with their service provider?

Yes I know I can take the trailer to them but sometimes it is just not possible.

Any input would help.

Thank you.

That's in line with our pricing.......I remember the good old days when they charged us $37 (just a couple of years ago) I could never figure out how they could make money with that rate.......really the $62 a call is pretty cheap also.

Whenever you feel that trucking is the worst job in the world just think about the mobile tire guy.
Any time of the day or night, either freezing or a heat wave struggling to wrestle off 150 lb wheels.
You are either up against a guard rail or your ass is sticking out onto the highway.

You could not pay me enough to do that job!

We're paying 65.00. And yes it's gone up sharply over the past few years... but they "ALL" have.

Pretty Thankless job isn't it.

And I agree with you on the not paying enough for me to do it part.

Ask yourself this question, "Would YOU do a tire change for $62.00?"

We do most of our own tire changes, some of these tires are pretty brutal to get off the rim, and like whatiship said, you are wrestling with a 150-200lb tire. When all is said and done, $62.00 is a pretty fair price to pay someone else to do that work.

As for you being "only 10km away", is their truck in their yard all the time? You are 10km away from their yard, not necessarily 10km away from where the truck is.

tire cost

Just paid $250.00 for a service call last thursday in the USA and I was happy about it. Got a good used trailer tire and rim for another $250.00.

All in all $100.00 more than a brand new trailer tire here.

We always go to the tire shop and get repairs done there, I think we used their road service twice over the last 3 years.
Our drivers are just careful and expected to check the tire pressures daily!
When the drivers do their pre trip , if they find the pressure low, they let us know and we chastise the previous driver. The embarrassment is enough to stop them from doing again!

I believe your $62 charge is to just get a truck to your facility, not for any re/re costs or throwing around 150lb tires, that is all extra. The question was/is $62 a fair charge. I pay $45 but I am located in the thick of things at Dixie & 401. I would agree the charge should reflect how far a tire truck has to travel to get to your facility.

Hell I had one in Hearst, Ont in Sept. He charged my Lease Op $175.00 to drive across the street and then $100.00 to pull a tire off the outside rim and pop the spare on it and air it up. He didn't even have to jack it up. My guy already had it driven up on a block when the tire guy got there.
