It would appear, that one of the signs of a tightening economy, is the reluctance of few (emphasis on few) carriers to assume their responsibility with settling legitimate freight claims. We are in the middle of 2 cases where the carriers feel that by ignoring the situation, it will some how go away. I can appreciate that insurance costs are high, but in this industry, goods do sometimes get damaged or go missing. Sadly, it is the nature of this business that bad things can and do happen. Surely this is why cargo insurance exists. I would appreciate any other broker/carrier thoughts or experiences on this subject. Again, I repeat, the vast majority of carriers do respond and participate in claims settlements when they are at fault, however, the few who do not (especially when the amounts are less than their deductible), do a disservice to this industry.

my favorite line to the carriers who try to avoid the problem is and always has been....this will not go away,,deal with it.
