Beware of this company. Load booked with them from Hilmar and Oakland, CA to B.C. just before Christmas - tried to bring driver back to Canada. Driver ran empty from Los Angeles to Hilmar, CA for around 5 hours. Went to shipper but still no po was provided. Dispatch kept telling that you don't need po# but security at gate was telling different story. Can't enter yard without po#. Still Dawn Norrish - dispatcher and also president of company kept asking to go see shipper even when we told them that security won't let driver enter the yard.

After two hours of waiting, security asked driver which shipment he was picking up and he found out from shipper and told my driver that this shipment was already picked up by other company. That was the reason why dispatch was not giving us po# and did not even bother calling us or did not have guts to tell that they sold load to some one else for cheaper and tried to blame their customer that they did not like the rate.

Then TBF dispatch said that they cancelled the load. When asked them to send confirmation for the fax was sent, their answer was that does not know what time fax was sent and does not know how to pull confirmation and said it was her daughter who sold this load to other carrier.

Long story short - lie after lie. I am not getting paid for running truck for few hundred miles but I don't want too see someone else get burned by these kind of unethical people in industry.

This is a residential address. The house was sold on 03/26/10 by Century 21 for $465,000. Their website says they've been in business since 2001, and each employee has had over 30 years experience. Their site tries to project an image that seems incongruent with reality.

1. Where my office is located does not affect our ability to do our jobs.
2. What my house was purchased for is not relevant nor anyones business.
3. I personally have been in this busines since Oct 17/74. My agent on the West Coast (before he died) was in it 10 years longer. The other people involved with TBF have also been in the business over 30 years. Just because I didnt start on my own before 2001 does not mean we dont have the experience and expertise behind us.
4. As for the accusations that we lied...not so! My customer cancelled the load because they did not like the rate, they found someone to do it cheaper. The cancellation was faxed a couple hours after the load sheet was tendered. I personally watched it go through and confirmed sent. The release number was marked to follow on the original tender. It didnt because the load was cancelled. AT NO TIME DID ANYONE TELL THIS CARRIER IT WAS NOT NEEDED! We load out of there all the time. We know you cannot get through the gate without the release! TBF has a group of very dedicated carriers it works with and will NEVER intentionally mess up a carrier. Welcome to trucking! If a customer decides they can move it cheaper, there is absolutely nothing we can do about it. If the shipper said it moved by someone else be assured it was not by TBF. We did not move it. He told me who moved it and we have never used that carrier.
We have a very good reputation for paying well, on time and we look after our carriers. Ask them Sohi, Chow, Northwind Logisitics, Maye Transport. We can keep going.
Ask this carrier how many times he has booked loads and then never showed up to pick them up! He has a reputation for it! He has done it to me and other people we work with. My daughter had nothing to do with this! PLAIN AND SIMPLE, THE CUSTOMER FOUND SOMEONE CHEAPER. THE LOAD WAS CANCELLED BY ME BY FAX. I keep cancelled load sheets for 1 day then pitch them.

Wow, what a liar. On your letter dated Dec/22/10 you mentioned that when you faxed you got busy and did not print confirmation. Here your saying you keep for a day. So why you could not provide confirmation for cancel load next day.

I still have both letters dated Dec/21 and 22 and as well load sheet from Dawn Norrish. In one letter saying that my daughter find some one from link and gave load to him. My driver found out from security register that Shawn Transport c/o TBF picked up this load.

I know this is part of business. The cutomer can cancel and choose who ever. Just explain to me if your truck runs three or four hundred miles empty and a broker found some cheap carrier and lied to you, how would you will feel?

And you mention that we booked freight with you and did not show up, can you provide some proof for that? I have proof in my hand what I'm writing here. if I'm allowed by moderator or web site, I'll scan and put it here for everybody to see what Dawn is saying in letters is same I'm posting here.

I did fax it, I did not keep it. I watched it go through. I did not give it to another carrier, neither did my daughter. My daughter sent the load confirmation to you. I dont deal with Shawn Transport and I did not give it to him. There is no letter from TBF stating that I did. Post what you want. If Shawn Transport loaded it then it was my customer that gave it to him. You did not get a confirmation number because I never got it because the load was cancelled! If the shipper said Shawn Transport moved it for TBF then he is wrong. Yes I was scheduled to pick it up before the customer took it back. Did they change that at the shipper? I dont know.
Time difference between Ontario and BC I dont always follow up with phone calls. I am not going to argue with you. I cant move something that is taken away from me. I DID NOT MOVE IT! If you say Shawn Transport moved then have him show who he billed. I guarantee it is not me. I have NEVER dealt with them. I have a very loyal following of carriers, I do not need this. Customers find someone cheaper all the time, I cant control that. If you thought it was cheap freight you should not have quoted it where you did. I ask carriers what they need to move it and then tell my customer the cost. It was originally OK'd then someone called them with a better rate.
Bottom line is we will never agree on this. As I said before, it is unfortunate it happened. No one ever told you you didnt need a release number. I didnt have it because I didnt move it. Get over it!
TBF pays their carriers well and doesnt stiff them Ask Sohi, Premier, Joseph S Chow, Trivee, Matma, East West, Ocean. If they deal with the TD I will even deposit their checks for them so they get them quicker.
Do you think I like it when my customer phones and tells me "Oh I found someone cheaper?", especially after I was told to book it? No is pisses me off but that is life. I waste hours a day trying to get the best rate and the best carrier to get it pulled out from under me after I am told to book it. I know exactly how you feel. WELCOME TO TRUCKING! It happens everyday

I work 10 to 14 hours a day. I answer the phone 24/7. I make sure they have the customs and even set it up for them if they want. I chase custom brokers to make sure there are no hold ups at the border. If a driver has a problem they know they can call me at any time and I will do my best to straighten it out. I was a customs broker for 15 years, I ran more than one trucking company over the years and I will go to bat for any driver or trucking company that has a legitmate issue. I had a load cancel with a driver already in the door in Chicago on Dec 23. QA cancelled it. I made sure the carrier got reimbursed what they asked for which was almost $700. Did I have to - NO and part of that came out of my pocket. My Carriers and customers mean alot to me. THIS WAS NOT INTENTIONAL, I HAVE APOLOGIZED, THAT IS ALL I CAN DO. I cancelled it, the fax machine confirmed it went through. END OF STORY

Morning,

I probably should keep my opinion to myself in this, but I have a feeling that my opinion will be shared by most. Besides, it's a beautiful Friday morning and I thought I'd like to share. I don't think that this is rocket science.

There are TWO distinct and separate agreements here at play. 1. the agreement between 'customer' and broker and 2. the agreement between broker (who is a customer of the carrier) and carrier (who is a supplier to the broker). Each has it's own level of detail, terms and conditions and provisions (some implied and some in print).

Besides the clear disagreement regarding faxes being sent and/or received and the unfortunate circumstance of both parties losing this piece of business (which would upset anyone trying to service a customer and run a business) there are really only 2 things to consider here: Why is a broker contracting a carrier to run 'hundreds of miles' to pick up a shipment if the order is not theirs for sure? However, if the broker thought it was truly theirs (this happens) and they contract a carrier to run 'hundreds of miles' I believe the onus is on the broker to pay for at least the empty miles that were demanded. The agreement can be seen to have two 'legs', the first the empty miles run to pick up and second the 'transportation portion'. Just because you both lost the 'transportation' portion of this does not mean that you can not come to a fair agreement on the work done prior to losing the business. Also, just because a customer pulls the business does not exonerate a broker from some obligation to a provider it's contracted who has incurred direct costs as a result. Of course, the obligation is likely more ethical then anything as I'm sure some less then ethical brokers would simply state 'our contract was to transport goods and as you did not pickup or deliver any goods for me, too bad for you'.

Of course, my assumption here is that broker knew that carrier was travelling a distance at the time of booking.

Do unto others as you wish done to you....

I could be wrong (it happens occasionally).

Keep well all, Happy Friday.

Mike

Pardon the rambling... I'm on my 3rd coffee....

Thanks Mike for jumping in here and breaking up the "rant" - which has gone on long enough.

This thread is now closed - the 2 arguing parties can hash it out somewhere else other than this forum...

Happy Friday
