T&E Bond

I have a question that is not really related to trucking directly. I have a driver that is asking me for info and I don't have any info to give him!
The scenario is that he has a whole bunch of personal goods (like a truckload) that he is loading up in his own equipment and driving through the States and crossing into Mexico. He was told that he needs a T&E Bond by US Customs. Does anyone know of a broker that will do a T&E Bond for personal goods? Or does someone know how this process works when it is not for commercial use? He is not travelling under our authorities for this trip if that makes any difference.
Would appreciate anyone sharing their experience if they can.

so this would be an owner op? he still has to run under some authority & insurance, etc.

if he doesn't have a broker to clear his goods he won't be able to do much, no matter if it is personal or not.

a commercial carrier can't just move his personal goods in & out as he wishes, then everyone would be moving freight as "personal goods"

you can probably call A N Deringer for the bond.

Thanks G Roch. He is not using his "commercial" equipment for the move. It is his own personal truck and pup trailer. I will tell him to give Deringer a try.

If it's his own goods, he may not need anything. Remember, a customs broker acts on behalf of a party who isn't there.

In the old days, carriers would offer carrier partners of theirs use of their bond for a fee. I don't think it happens any more though.

I agree with G Roch, a customs broker would probably lend the bond out for a fee.

Thanks the man...I am throwing this out to members because he was told by a customs official that due to the quantity of goods and I am assuming the nature of goods, it had to go through as a bond.
